2014 e550: too old to purchase?

I don't think I've seen such a stripped down 550 before.. that really is an odd car. No lighting, no keyless go, not even lane track with blind spot..
Hard pass at $35K OTD. The CPO stuff is nice, but it is not nearly as comprehensive as the original warranty. And to echo what someone else said in this thread, I am not touching any MB with burl walnut trim. CPO will not cover this, either. Some don't fade, some do. The issue was never resolved even in the 2016s.

I should have noted that I jumped on to the forum today to see if anyone has added Distronic (I have Driver Assist so I may have some of the wiring/sensors) and if it's economically viable. I have a long commute on busy freeways and it's an option I've always wanted.
Likewise on on adding fold downs but I believe that's been posted here.

2016 E350 Sport
About that lighting package. I think you will find the standard LED lights on the E550 to be fine, better that the lights on your 2011 model. I have the standard lights on my 2016 and actually prefer them over the optional package. Just my opinion, but I feel the double eyebrow DRLs are overwraught and styled well over the top.
I would miss the Keyless GO more, as you've already noted.

and I know that warranty isn’t the best as compared to a new car warranty but it’ll give me a ton of peace of mind buying it. I figure I’ll have a car I can put 80k miles on over the next 5-6 years, a luxury make, with solid power to keep me satisfied.

How long (miles & years) do you actually drive your cars?
Truly 5-6 y / 80k as you figure?
Imho, a bare 550 seems to tick all the right boxes for your preference and avoids extras you obviously don't require.
Post a vid of the engine bay at idle to this thread!

Tryly 5-6 y / 80k as you figure?

If the TTV8 is what you are after and can live without some of the other features no one would fault you for making the deal. Pretty obvious that 2014 CPO E550's with 20K miles with good service histories aren't abundantly available. I looked on MBUSA and it didn't list a single CPO E550 available in the country.

Check the old threads in the extended warranty subforum. Usually one or two of those dealers there have a better price on the extra two years of CPO. Very hard to find an E550 that's truly loaded. Basically the high price is for the low miles. The lighting package also has the auto high beams. Basically the combo that's hard to find is driver assistance package, pano roof, parktronic, lighting package and keyless go.

As I posted earlier in this thread, a VMI (preferably) or Carfax report would include the cars original in service date. IIRC the OP said the dealer was adding a 3 year CPO warranty. For them to do that would indicate that the car was still under the OEM 4 year warranty. Which means that the car wasn't sold until 2016! As far as the price difference between a E350 and the E550 was approx 10k more new. After owning both M276, and M278 E class sedans, I wouldn't want to go back to the V6. I had my burled walnut trim replaced. If the car the OP is looking at is still under OEM warranty then the wood trim, and other issues should be covered.

the car wasn’t in warranty. That said, dealer is saying that can certify it with the three yea unlimited mile warranty with zero deductible.

Now in the OP's case - if you've got the choice between V8 or lighting package, that's a personal call. I wanted a facelift W212 and I had two explicit requirements - no turbos and RWD only (I have driven the 4M cars and will never buy one). I'm not sure if the OP said he's definitely buying the car now or not.. but I can see if you're set on facelift and V8, you're not likely to have that many options. I still think it is a bit overpriced, though, for such a stripped down example.

Mercedes can CPO a car up to 6 years old and 75,000 miles. It does not have to still be under original warranty. So the dealer is telling the truth about this.

Motor sounds fine for a video that can only capture so much. The compartment is filthy for a 20K mile car.
