Looking to buy but need help

Im looking at buying either a E350 or a E550. I remember a thread that showed the years and engine numbers that were affected by the cam tensioners. Ive been looking for that thread but haven't been able to find it. The E350 is a 2010 with 52000 miles, $14000 Vin # WDDHF5GB5AA207376. The E550 is a 2012 with 28500 miles, $20000 Vin # WDDKJ7DB4CF174364. Can someone please point me in the right direction and let me know what other common issues with these MY there are, thanks.

WDDHF5GB5AA207376 – 272 engine not included. However, Service Campaign 2012070002 released for modified camshaft solenoids harness. WDDKJ7DB4CF174364 both check valves & tensioners replacement required if noise is present. Have a local dealer run vehicle master inquiry (VMI) for both VIN to see if work was already completed.

Well the E550 is much nicer. The E350 is a basic model, has the driver assistance package which is nice, not too common and is also PZEV and has parktronic. Other than that, it's somewhat basic compared to the E550. That one also has the driver assistance package, parktronic and also lots of options that are missing on the E350. Real leather is standard on the E550 and on the E350, the MB-Tex seat is known to rip, not an issue with real leather. You also end up with bixenons, keyless go and the pano roof which you don't get on the E350. You also get the heated and cooled seats on the E550, cooled seats were not an option on E350. Drawback on the E550 was airmatic. Both models suffer from faded wood trim. Open the door and see if the wood covered by the door is darker than the rest of the wood.

Absolutely the E550!

No question about it. You need the bigger engine, everything else coming with it is extra. Don't let the Airmatic scare you off. It is a wear item and quite costly to repair but after you repair you have 10 years to next repair and you will enjoy one of the best suspension systems you can ever buy.

And it you are DYI at all you can do the labor for repair yourself and it is not that bad as the job is very easy. There are lots of writing about this in the forum.

With less than 30000 miles on that big engine it is not even broken in yet. Go for it!

And if it is at a dealer you can probably get the price down a bit too..

The 550 is a coupe and its probably what will hold me back from buying it. I was really looking for a sedan.

I don't know but judging by the carfax of the E550, it looks like there's an 8 year gap with no maintenance visits. And we know how well you have to take care of an MB. That may be the biggest deal breaker imo?
