Your Next Replacement Car....
This W212 forum is for E-class in the years 2010 - 2016.
So all of our vehicles are 4 - 10 yrs by now, with factory warranty gone & maybe some with extended warranties running out soon.
So what's everyone's future plans on the next replacement car? or keep her for a while?
Looking for another Mercedes? Staying with another E-class , or move bigger/smaller with C or S-class?
These new E class is getting pretty pricey.
What other makes you're looking at? BWM, Audi, etc...?
Our 2015 E400 is now at 40k miles, still looks % & runs great. Has 1.5 yrs left on extended warranty, so guess we'll keep her until expiration.
We're also open to looking at Audi A6, BMW 5-series, or other mid size sedans also.
Our son bought an 2018 Audi A6 last year in Jan 2019 for almost $20k off sticker because new 2019 were a newer generation, but he still loves it.
So we're also looking at similar valued purchase....

I wanted to buy a new car in 2018, as my 2001 C320 was starting to show its age due to the unavailability of modern features, like bluetooth phone connectivity. I told myself early on that I would not buy another Mercedes (or any European car) as NEW, because of the high rate of depreciation the first 2-3 years. Simply a waste of money to buy a new MB. And I don't "rent" cars...
Two years ago, I anticipated buying a 2017 W213 coming off lease, but the arrival of the W213 decided the issue for me. I strongly dislike the tucked-in sheet metal at the back... .gotta have enough trunk width to place a bag of golf clubs back there. And those ugly, upswept taillights made no sense to me at all.
So, I bought a 2 year-old W212 instead. Just 4 years old now, I will keep this one another 6-8 years, and then buy my first electric vehicle (a sedan, not an ugly SUV). Tesla is the only one with decent styling atm. Maybe some other EV manufacturer will realize by then that styling matters...

Keeping mine until she costs me more money then I wanna spend to keep running so hopefully around 2030 she is still with me.
I hate buying cars as they are such a waste of good money you never see again... unless you get lucky and bought a Gullwing back in the day... and kept it.

2014 E350 & 2017 GLE 400
Purchased my 2104 CPO E350 in 2017, actually for my wife but she decided after curbing a wheel after 2 years driving that she wanted to get back into a SUV. So we purchased a 2016 CPO GLE 350 in 2019 with 14K miles. Traded off my 2015 C400 for it and now the 2014 E350 is mine. Just came off of CPO warranty last November. Love the car, ride is so smooth all the creature comforts I need. Pano roof, LED headlights with high beam assist and Park assist if I need it. Car is kept in immaculate condition. So I will likely have this one for 6-8 more years then see what new technology is out there.

Like most of you, I hope to keep my 2012 E550 for a number of years more. I really like everything about it. I bought it 4 years old at 1/3 of the sticker. My only non-regular maintenance expense has been o2 sensors, so I'm happy with the cost so far.

Not sure if you're serious or not. I don't think they ever made an E550 in a wagon. Mostly either the E350 or the E63 in wagon form. They did make an E500 in wagon form, but that was back in 2006, last year of it. There is an E400/E450 in wagon form though.

I typically keep my cars until the annual maintenance cost equals about half the cash value of the car. Under that model, I kept my last car, a 2001 Lexus LS430, for over 14 years and 154K miles. At that point I saw the need for about $5k in maintenance costs for the coming year, while the car was worth at most $8K.
That said, Gonzo is a 2015, purchased new in August, 2015, with the 7-year ELW. So, he will be with me for at least that long - August, 2022. I will keep an eye on maintenance requirements for the final couple of years of warranty and decide what will happen in year 8.
If I had to look for another car now, I would look at either new or CPO, but possibly E Class, BMW 5-series or Audi. My one stipulation is that I will NOT drive a 4-cylinder car, no matter what they do to it. So if, for example, MB went back to only selling the turbo-4 in the E Class, that would rule it out for me. I have driven the E300 and it is a fine car. I'm just too much of an old hot rodder. The only reason I "settled" for the E400 is because the V6 TT out-performed the 4.3L V8 in my last Lexus.
After driving 3 Lexus LS models and then the E Class, I might or might not stay with the same size car. Depending upon how I feel at shopping time, I could opt for a car one size smaller - IF it still felt like a substantial, luxury-oriented car. (So, no A-Class, but maybe a C.)

Yeah and if you go to the S class forum, nothing below an S class is a real Mercedes.

Yup, here's one https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...550-wagon.html
I'd be happy to trade my sedan for a wagon

when my E350 was in for warranty work they gave me a W213 E300 loaner and everyone in my family love it, the interior is very nice though not perfect, and the 4 banger is lacking breath at high speed,
my replacement will almost for sure going to be an E53, it just hits the right spot on performance/cost/comfort,
but at the same time I really want a wagon and I'm not sure I want to spend the premium on E63s since the E450 is not going to cut it for me.

I'll see how the facelift ages. I generally like to get the facelift of a model when the new one is being replaced, hence my purchase of a 2015 E400. However, the W213 , despite an awesome interior, doesn't do it for me so far for the exterior. If the inline 6 E53 is that great, I might not be able to pass it up.

Well nothing promised but the last couple of series were 7 years. Basically 4 years and then a face lift for another 3 years. So W213 has been out for 4 years and next year expect a face lift and then around for another two years. Who knows what happens after that. Some auto makers claim they're going to stop making internal combustion engines and just do electric but we'll see what happens.

I highly doubt the next gen E class will not have an ICE, hybrid/mild hybrid across the board maybe,
given the sale volume of the E class there simply isn't enough battery production capacity

I have owned my 2012 E350 since 2015. Extended the ELW for 3 years which expired last year. In the 5+ years of ownership I had zero issues and replaced the battery and tires once.
No plans to replace the car and bought 3 pre-paid service pack which would last another 3 years. And, I still have a S class in spite of the car 32 years old!
