2012 E350
Garage door opener

We have a new-to-us 2012 E350 with HomeLink. Got the HomeLink programmed using the Canadian instruction method, green LED etc. The problem is our garage door opener doesn't seem to recognize it.

The garage door opener is a Craftsman circa 1999-2000. It has the green programming button. For all the handheld remotes and remote keypad on the outside of the garage, we follow the same method: we push the green button on the garage door opener, then push the remote button or enter the code on the keypad. Then the opener's light blinks once. Done.

Sadly, pushing the HomeLink button that we programmed by one of the working remotes doesn't sync with the opener. I've tried everything, even starting from scratch... which means clearing all codes from the opener, clearing all codes from HomeLink, using the remote to program the HomeLink, then pushing the green button and then the HomeLink button. Nothing. And just to mock me, after the HomeLink didn't work I pushed the remote button from inside the car... the opener light blinked as it synced to the remote.

Is there some sort of mystical sequence I'm missing?

I have a 2010 E350 and about two years (maybe less) after purchasing, the Homelink button failed. Spoke with service advisor and he said MBUSA knew it to be a problem, but would not replace the mirror unit. I just programmed the next button over and it has worked fine since. Opener is a "Powerlift" brand installed by a garage door company about 1990.

I had such opener in my previous house and still remember the programming was 2-step procedure.
First you need to teach the car sender proper frequency, what is done by car manual and opener remote.
Once you car sends proper signal, than you need to program the opener to recognize it by pushing the button by opener manual.
Have fun- it always is for me as the timing is crucial and sometimes I have to repeat it few times to succeed.

99.9% of these Homelink issues is operator error. It’s the case with every brand of automobile made. Sorry to be blunt. Follow the Homelink instructions on their site explicitly and I know you will get it to work.

Since we're on the subject...

I can only find one original remote for my garage door. When I programmed the E350, my truck door opener stopped working. When I re-programmed the truck, the E350 stopped working. Is there a way to work around this and get both vehicles programmed off a single remote? Genie door opener ~20 years old.

Below is a great video for Homelink programming. Pay particular attention to the rolling code part...that's were most people make a mistake.

you only need one remote to sync with all of the vehicles you own. You are programming incorrectly. No programming of a new vehicle should wipe out the other vehicles program. I have 4 cars programmed to the same OHD, using my one and only handheld

Thank you nota & KEY. I guess I was looking for conformation multiple vehicles can be programmed with the same remote, which you've provided.

Edit: Garage door opener memory must have been full. Went thru a repeat of the sequence of events described earlier. Then tried clearing the garage door opener. Both vehicles work now. Need to add the wife's van now too.
