W212 Active Lane keeping assist inoperative help

I have a E63s, rear wheel drive.
I had to remove the steering rack, when i put it back i messed up the spline in the steering column, ( inside the boot )
i then realinged it all, but the steering only went 1/4 turn one side and all the other. so i pulled it from the rack ( rack joint ) and rotated it and refit it. my helper said he heard a click in the car when i turned the wheel with the rack not connected.
Now the car has full tuns left and right, but this error has come.
I pulled the codes B1EB000 is the only code.
I checked the steering angle from the scanner and it is perfect, 0 is middle, i try to reset it but it wont reset the code, keeps throwing it.
I am wondering what i have broken in the column, perhaps the steering shaker ? or whatever it uses to do that , or whatever it uses to turn the steering wheel electrically ? or what I can test ??

It is a feature I love about the car and i use it almost daily, so need it working !!

Any help, suggestions would be great.

Also I checked the steering wheel buttons, they all work the electric up / down, in and out also work.
also when in reverse the lines move on the camera screen, so it confirms the steering angle works.
i must ask, what moves the steering wheel when holding in the lane ? is that in the rack ? or is that something that attaches to the column ?

Thank you very much for this.
It does point to it.
Is the clock spring a separate p[art of this whole combination switch in your picture ?

Is there anywhere that shows how to replace it please ?
I tried to find the part to buy, but not sure where to look USA is okay, I am in Australia, but will ship.

Thank you so very much for this.
I wish there was a way I could test the clock spring.

Even if i could pull it out and meter it.
Everything else on the steering wheel controls works perfectly.

The steering angle sensor portion of it is probably damaged. No way around it, swap the part

on the scan tool the steering angle reads perfect, turn the wheel it changes.
on the reverse camera the lines are also straight, turn the wheel the lines also follow.

You mentioned you have a E63S, aren't they AWD(2014)? And if so they have active lane keep assist(move the steering wheel automatically), test and see if that feature is working. The motor may not be getting any power.

Edit: I was thinking US, other countries get RWD. but still the above applies.

Yes, I am Australian, so it is RWD only. the active lane keeping assist inoperative is written on the dash in yellow.
therefore the steering wheel light stays white, not go green.
so the steering wheel doesn't move on it's own anymore. i am thinking the thing that moves the wheel on it's own could be the fault, but don't know how it does that.

Right, on my comment by motor I meant the steering motor that moves it during Active steering assist.

Not certain it is the motor if system is inoperable (i.e.: camera) may simply need to be re-calibrated using MB diagnostics. The Active Lane Keeping Assist system intervenes when the vehicle is threatening to cross over continuous lines. If the driver does not respond to the haptic warning in stage 1, the system attempts to keep the vehicle in its lane by performing a single-sided, course-correcting brake system intervention using the ESP. If vibration is inoperable for your steering wheel you can check behind contact plate under airbag.

Well, what a day, Due to the price of this part in Australia, I pulled it all apart today. and yes a single wire ( the vibration motor ) wire in the clock spring was broken.
Figured, couldn't make it any worse, so pulled it all apart, and soldered it and carefully put it back together.
Was a slow process, and gotta be careful with it all.

put it all back, and after 5 attempts to set the steering angle right, it works !

However the last time, i forgot to pull the battery before unplugging the airbag, so now it has an airbag fault,

Can I reset it myself ? or do i need the scan tool ?

Thanks to all for your help especially for the pull apart instructions !!

Awesome, thanks for reporting back to us. If you have the right scan tool you can, I heard a dealer does it in most cases.
