CLS550 Wheels put onto E350 Problem

I just bought a 2011e350 sedan from a used car dealer. the dealer put 2012 CLS wheels on it and the front wheels will hit body when I go over bumps. The size of the front wheels are 255/35/19 the rear wheels seem to be fine at 285/30/19. the wheel part number seems to be OW85217B on these CLS rims is there a way I can put a thinner tire on this wheel to make it compatible or what should i do?

Yes you should be able to put a 245 in the front, assuming the wheel is 8.5-9in wide. Or you could put spacers in the front to push the wheels out. Do you know what it's hitting?

I believe its hitting the bottom most part of the fender. But maybe i should look better with a flash light. the wheels do look like they stick out from the fender though. So that's most likely what it is hitting

If the tire is hitting the fender, then a smaller tire is likely your least expensive option......unless you want to shave your tires....not exactly something I would suggest but I've seen people solve this problem that way.

The 255 wide tire is used on the E63 AMG. It works with that car because the front fender is wider than a normal E class. The offset for the CLS and the wider 255 tire is causing the issue that the narrower 245 should alleviate. The dealer should have checked this before sending you on your way. Make them buy new tires for you.

Dealer is avoiding me when i call he says he is busy and will call me back but never does. What do I do in this situation. Do I contact the better business bureau. Or small claims court he also promised he would get me a key because the actual metal part that goes inside the key is missing. This is a used car dealer not an actual mb dealership.

Well, sorry to hear your calls are going unanswered, but that shouldn’t be surprising. Go get new tires and chalk it up.

2015 W212 Eclass wagon
Sorry to revive this thread but been researching this subject for a few days now and hoping someone can shed some light on the matter..
I have a 2015 W212 E220 estate it has standard 18" wheels on, picture attached of manufacturer recommendations.
I want to change then for genuine 19" wheels that are off a CLS, all the measurements are the same as shown in the manual except the front ET number which is 34.5 and the recommendation is 48et
My question is will this be an issue or will they fit without any problems, also what tires I should use to prevent any rubbing or the tires sticking out too far or in too much.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks guy.

I suppose you could use a 13mm spacer on those. (oops, spacers subtract not add) I hate having to use wheel spacers, but I also hate using 19" rims on a car that was really meant to have 17" wheels on the street. every crack and pothole in the road will be a potential bent or cracked rim, so you'd best drive that hotrod really slow and carefully except on a perfect race track.

if its just for show, and you won't actually be driving the car in the real world, then go for it!

From the E Series catalog, the footnote on the 18 and 19" rim options says...
16 - Lower aspect ratio tires and accompanying wheels provide substantially increased treadwear,
increased tire noise and reduced ride comfort. Serious wheel and tire damage may occur if
the vehicle is operated on rough or damaged road surfaces or upon encountering road debris
or obstacles. These tires are not designed for use on snow and ice. Winter tires mounted on
appropriately sized and approved wheels are recommended for driving in those conditions
that last part is due to the fact that at least when I last looked, the 18 and 19" recommended tire sizes *ONLY* came in "summer ultra performance", no all seasons. now, if you're building a fair weather racer for track days, that you'll be traillering to/from the track, by all means go for it!

Mine actually came with 18's from the factory, and has a recommended tyre if you want to change to the 19". And from speaking to the people that have changed them find no issues with from what I gather.
Anyway I collected some 19" yesterday, getting them fitted tomorrow so will let you know how they look and ride.

This the manufacturer recommendations for wheels anf tyre and nowhere does it say what you mentioned above.

Picked these up yesterday

A 13mm spacer on a 34 offset will place the tire fully outside the wheel opening. That’s not how spacers work.

To anyone wondering...
I just had my wheels fitted and look gorgeous, perfect fit, no rubbing and the car sits just right in my opinion.

oh, did I have it backwards? grrr. was on my phone late night. was thinking the spacer ADDED to the offset not subtracted. but in the bright light of the late morning, with a 2nd cup of coffee, oh yeah. I'll go edit that.

the final test is going over dips and smooth bumps while turning to work the suspension travel at various steering angles.
