W212 Remove front seat side trim cover

Can anyone help me on how to remove this plastic cover so I can tighten what's loose behind it? My drivers seat has movement in the front corner and its not the height adjustment knock.

Thanks

Only visual inspection will tell.

Hi,

I've checked almost everything I possibly can and can't find the culprit. I may need to look further into my seatbelt side.

Thanks for responding

Hi Tommy,

I bought that part, but had trouble putting it on, I didn't seem to fit well. It wasn't sitting flush when fitting the new shim and bolt. Put the old one back and thought it was the wrong part. Did you have this happen?
It was scrapping along the edge when I've put an arrow in the attached photo. also sat at a similar angle. I'd really like to have this fixed.

What was your remedy?

What if it doesn't lie flat? What could I be doing wrong?

Are surfaces lubricated and bolt tightened to 4 Nm (+1) as instructed in bulletin.

I don’t have a tool to measure the torque but will get one. Will try again, have spare time in. A few days. I’ll take photos and get back to you with what happens

I need to do this on our wagon as well... however I'm confused too at the instructions (maybe would be clearer in person). How does one align the "shim", is it eccentric? Too me is looks like a thicker version of the OE washer with the center area recessed to use the same length screw. Are they referring to the "boss" on the gear aligning/engaging the hole in the washer...?

I had success installing this part, but it wasn't as easy as thought. The circumference is greater on the new piece and therefore doesn't line up as expected on first attempt. Seems like it won't fit and also sat at an angle. It sat slightly over the "kidney shaped guide" So I ended up putting it flat, above the guide and slowly tightening it until it forced its way past the edge to sit up against, and then with it greased ran the seat up and down a few times to seat it in. The click has gone, hallelujah!

I was originally concerned that it was going to damage the guide but turns out that's how its meant to be.

Hope this helps others.

Happy new year!

Did the retrofit today myself.. yes the replacement washer is larger in diameter and thickness. It basically preloads the pinion to reduce slop, some jiggling of the seat back while tightening the screw forces the washer into positiion (tight against the raised curved guide or kidney as the procedure calls is).
