Eclass hid headlight issues
Hi, I hope someone can help, I have a 2009 w212 with self levelling headlights, about 2 months ago the auto dip function stopped working, I wasn't too bothered as I could still switch with the stalk.
About 1 week ago the right side hid bulb went down accompanied with the warning light, I ordered a new bulb and went to fit but no joy, I have tested the bulb in the left hand side and it works so it must be something more, please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes the little mechanism inside the headlight gets stuck, usually not both headlights at the same time, so the new bulb didn't work?
Do the low beams work? the headlight moves up and down for high-low beams, but you knew that.

Yes the new bulb doesn't work on the rhs but does on the lhs so it must be something else, I don't know what else is in the headlight unit that the xenon needs, I have only had to deal with halogen on my other cars

Where are you located? In the US I think you're limited to the headlamp assembly, not sure if you can just get the motor separately. They're about $620 on rockauto.com. You might be able to find a used one somewhere cheaper, can't find anything on eBay right now. You could also get the car scanned, that may also help to narrow it down.

Also could be the ballast,I saw a thread about taking the headlight apart and fixing the lever that moves the headlight, If you're good mechanically this might be cheaper.

if the burner(bulb) is not working on one side, more than likely it is the ballast/starter box. Not sure where this is located, but assuming the bumper/headlight will need to be removed to replace, but not positive. You can get aftermarket ballasts pretty much anywhere:

The ballast is the most likely culprit. It is located underneath the headlamp assembly, attached with a few screws. You will need to remove the bumper to pull the headlamp

And technically you should change out both bulbs at the same time, I did one on my 2007 S550 and they were not the same brightness, obviously this would come after you change out the ballast and the headlight is working again.
