Yes, Naples at sunset, my buddy has a condo there on the ocean. Gorgeous!. But so is evening fishing and drinking Shiner Bock on Lewisville Lake. I also had clients in Albany Georgia, Hoffman Estates Illinois and Eden North Carolina, Closest I ever got to Vegas was Henderson, was there three months renovating their WW treatment plant, I do love the desert!
OOOOH, and it's not a 1,200 mile road trip to go there... (See how I kept it pertinent?)

I wonder how many "Lewisville Lakes" there are? One of the largest lakes in N. Texas is Lewisville Lake (46sq mi), just 3 miles from my home. They serve Shiner Bock at the restaurant there, too.

LOL, I worked on the WW treatment plant in Denton and stayed in Flower Mound for a year and a half, one week in Texas, two back home in Cleveland. Set up our lab at TWU and A&M. Flew over Grapevine lake on takeoff many times. I drove to Texas, and left my car there until I finished then drove the 1200 miles home, 17 months later. Also a few trips to College Station and back, I drove nice, the Texas way!
Old House BBQ?
Old House BBQ?
My home is in central-west Flower Mound, about equidistant between Lake Lewisville and Grapevine Lake.
Not sure I agree about using "driving nice," and "Texas" in the same sentence. On moving to TX, I had to adjust to selfish, rude driving. Allow 4 carlengths following distance on any TX Interstate at 70mph, and there is always someone (or two) who will take the space.

Um, so we're talking about the SAME Lake Lewisville then? Yes, Old House BBQ, among several others.

Apparently you have never driven in Massachusetts, worst drivers outside of India, Best and nicest drivers? Wisconsin and Minnesota hands down.

Yes, I"ve been all over the country for work, I try hard to remember only the good things and good places, Flower Mound was one of them, my brother-in-law had a ranch in Sulphur Springs and just moved to College Station {Bryan} recently, so I still get down there every once in a while, also have great ex-neighbors/friends in Round Rock.

City infrastructure built for 20,000 people with 80,000 living there (2006-07). Probably 120,000 today. Wait through 5 stoplight cycles to get through EVERY intersection. No thanks.
Sister and her hubby lived in a Boston Massachusetts suburb several years. Took a 1,200 mile drive (in a Nissan 300ZX 2+2) to visit once. Enjoyed that drive, but you can keep that place, too.

I'm quite certain every state, every city, every town, every one horse town is full of d&ck wad drivers. No exceptions.

My buddy retired from the army, full bird Colonel, then went to work for TEXDOT, He says he sees Kalifornia plates everywhere and agrees with your traffic assessment.
And to Hyperion I say, if you ever find yourself in upstate Wisconsinor Minnesota, you will understand. Land of the blonde people, who all stop at yellow lights, use their turn signals religiously and will not go more than 5 mph over the speed limit.

Since someone else revived this thread, I'll just comment that I have been driving the central-VA to Western WVa for the last 30 years in a lot of different cars, which approaches 300 miles each way. Despite being the east coast, this is probably the most hilly and curvy section of the interstate system east of the Mississippi and perhaps even the entire country. The various vehicles I have made this trip in (includes family):
With those experiences, I will say that every single one of them has been a gamer. For what the 300SD lacked in power, it made up in handling and comfort (had her up to 107MPH with 4 passengers over the Cheat Lake Bridge in WV back in 2002!). The bluetec is actually responsible for one of my fastest times, but I was much younger when that was my main car. My W212 E400 is wonderful and feels like a fighter jet compared to my earlier cars, but I miss the more visceral feedback of the earlier models.
- W126 300SD - for a full decade
- W126 420 SEL (2 different models!) - beginning in 2007 and still making the drive multiple times a year
- W210 E300d (non-turbo)
- W211 E320 Bluetec - 140K miles and running a tune for 110K of those
- W212 E400 - 52K miles and running a tune for 34K of those
- W212 E350 (2) - Completely stock base models ; one died an early death in an accident, the other is still in service

Great drive, I used to drive from Abingdon, VA to Philly pretty regular, I-81 through the Shenandoah was an awesome cruise. I also worked on a little brewery in Elkton, VA. LOL

The 81 stretch is the one I dislike the most... Those 30 miles can be a make or break it sort of day, all it takes is one accident and it's all over. I did this drive yesterday and 81S was completely blocked at MM220. Fortunately I was able to cut through Stuart's Draft on 340 and avoid it. The views, especially after breaking off on 64W at Lexington, are beautiful.

Just an opinion from a past road warrior, but I would come down through Niagra falls and take I-80 the whole way, great ride and lots to see. I drove Canada length-wise from Saskatchewan to Toronto on a project for CN, not enjoyable.
