Hey everyone, I've been considering going with OETuning for an ECU Tune on my 2011 e550 as they're having a nice sale. The price of the tune w/ the tuner is $450. They're also offering an exhaust popping feature for an extra $100. Money is a little tight so I've been on the edge of the popping tune. Does anyone think it's worth it? All feedback is appreciated, thanks!

It would be cool for about 2 weeks probably... 😂
Nah, just kidding. Seems kinda pricey for just adding a burble file, but no turbos, so I don't think it would be detrimental to the driveline???

Whoa...thats a big surprise!🤪
I can't say too much as mine does it a little, but I have to be decelerating fairly quickly while downshifting at a fairly high rpm for it to actually occur, but it does happen occasionally.
Thinking of getting quieter mufflers now as well, damn I MUST be getting old...

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. Combining with everyone's opinion here and finding some sound clips of a burble tune on an m273 I've decided to opt-out for the tune after realizing it sounded a bit too tacky for my taste. The growl of the engine after an xpipe and Magnaflow mufflers will be enough for me

Our Macan barks/farts/pops/burbles and in general is very entertaining to listen to. But I don’t think it would be nice on a Benz.
Good choice forgoing it.

Excellent choice Alan... one less Mercedes-Benz sedan acting like a Toyota Supra.

I live in a metro area of about 250K people and run a 10K every day. I can identify the people I hate the most by their ****ty pop/burble exhaust. 100% of those drivers are driving GTIs, 370Zs or G37s. I hate them so much that I literally talk **** to them if I manage to be at a stoplight and have a chance to confront them. I absolutely despise that ****.... I drive a tuned to **** debadged E400 and also have a 570HP E55 in my stable, and I think all of that is so juvenile . Maybe I should disclose that I'm old (37).
Edit: I shouldn't post when drinking...

Yes 37 is old, I have children your age! 32,34,36
Another story:
In 1977 I got my first new vehicle after driving my grandfathers '66 continental for four years, I got a blue K10 step side Chevy truck, with less than 1k, I ripped out the seat replacing it with a Chrysler Imperial eight way power seat in blue velour, double bar chrome roll bar KC lights, mindblower speakers in the doors, two more behind the seats, 4" lift big wheels, off road tires, brush guard and more lights with a winch and an FM radio! my Dad was driving an Audi 100LS and looked at me like I was absolutely nuts, especially when I ripped out the seat and cut holes in the doors for the speakers. I traded this truck for a '79 silver anniversary Trans-Am and two years later into a '82 Buick Park Avenue, so I could get a car seat in the back, then two car seats! So I can not say anything! I wouldn't want one, but I admire the creativity and ambition.

Here in Texas -- the land of the pick-em-up Truck -- we have tens of thousands of yahoos driving diesel-powered Tonka Toys. They just love flooring the pedal away from every stoplight, showering all those around with a cloud of skanky exhaust and a raucus racket of annoying noise. Oh the symphony of roller-cam lifters banging away on cylinder heads like drumsticks on trashcan lids... It's this more often than the Rice Rocket tunes, now that I think about it.
Of course, none of these overpriced, obnoxious Tonkas ever carry a load in back... about one in ten is an actual working truck. Not that one can lift a load high enough to get it into the pickup bed, either. Big knobby traction tires that never see use off-road. Usually some 5'4" tattooed, attention-starved Bob Chandler (Bigfoot) wannabe under a 10-gal hat, taking a running jump at the chromed running board to hoist themselves aboard. What a comedy.
On second thought, spend that extra hundred on the burble-pop tune. No one will notice...

I'm curious how you like this tune (noticeable power difference? mileage? etc), I was thinking about getting it myself but my money went elsewhere.

I’ve yet to add the tune to my e550. Will keep you updated once I do, though. I’m really hoping for a better response time from the transmission as there’s noticeable lag when flooring it. You can only squeeze about 30 extra hp out of the m273 but it’ll bring me over the 400hp threshold so I’ll be looking forwards to it!

There is no way that list is correct. A transmission tune is almost $2k on its own. You cannot adjust shift points, or any transmission or traction control parameter without tuning the TCU, you just can't...it's impossible. The TCUs were just unlocked and only been able to be tuned(in the US) for just 6-7 months now. I was one of the first to get it. No way they are able to do that for the price they quoted...sorry. I just don't want you to get burned, because you're not getting 70% of what's on that list...it's just an engine tune, period. Nothing more. Do some more research, you'll see what I'm saying is correct. Go to the W212 AMG section and look into the threads about mods. Please message me if you want more specifics. I am a wealth of worthless knowledge! lol

You know...looking back at their "List", I'm seeing it is very interestingly written.
Features of the tune include:
•Higher Torque request for TCU
✓Well, yeah. The motor is tuned and now making more torque. This changes nothing as the torque limits are still exactly the same as before the ECU tune...lol
•Speed limiter removal
✓Sure, makes sense. All my ECU tunes included this option.
•Improved throttle response
✓Eh...maybe. I have not driven on an OE Tune so I cannot say, but I would imagine any engine tune would give this as it is optimized over the stock map.
•Additive timing adjustment to take advantage of race gas (a huge bonus at the track)
✓Cool. Sounds interesting...Do they provide a 2nd map for free???
•Torque converter stall increased
✓Hmmm...notice it doesn't say "stall SPEED increased"? So, this is actually cleverly worded to BE true. Technically, the "stall" IS increased, due to making more power(this is actually called the "flash" point, but I digress) but "stall speed" is exactly the same.
You can't even adjust stall speed with a TCU tune. It's not electronic, it's the mechanical design of the stator in the torque converter that determine stall "speed". Nope. The only way to change the stall speed is to change torque converter out for one that has a higher stall speed...and the last time I looked, they were in the $2K range.
•Rpm and shifting limits can also beincreased
✓Yes, Idle rpm is adjustable. I know folks with the ECE Hard Motor Mounts that have increased their idle +200-250RPM to reduce HNV.
"Shifting Limits" is the same thing...just raising the RPM limit of the engine. I know on my M278 I did NOT increase the stock RPM limit because of the amount of power my car makes. MAYBE, if it might help my break into the 10's, I MIGHT raise it, but I see no need to stress the stock components any more than I am. With a built Short block, sure...but not on a stock motor. Not for me, anyway. My car is my daily.
***Now, the TCU tune will allow adjustment of the torque tables, allowing the engine to put more power to the ground(in factory TCU, torque is the limiting factor. 1st 2nd and 3rd gears limit the amount of torque the engine can put through the transmission, to help limit damage). Reducing those values and increasing pump and line pressure for a firmer quicker gearchange and TC lockup allows more power to be put down to the ground.
