Automatic trunk closer stopped working

My automatic trunk closer on my 2014 E550 stopped working. When I press the buttons to use the closer, the panel lights up but the motor is not engaging. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it a simple software reset? Thanks in advance for all the help.

What panel are you talking about? In my 4 years older E550 I have two buttons in the trunk lid but not really a panel.

Have you tried closing with the button on the door?

Lots of mixed terms being used here...

Anytime you press a button to start a function, it's not fully automatic... power assisted, yes, automatic, no. Now that I think of it, using the foot below the bumper (keyless go) is not automatic, since it requires your input to initiate it. But since the lid doesn't close telepathically, I suppose buttons and feet are as close to automatic as it gets.
The two lights are housed in a panel (more appropriately a "mount")

As Arrie suggests, please try the open/close button in the driver's door (push in), to see it that works. That will give a clue whether it's a trunk-lid button issue, or system-wide. If you also have keyless-go, does that method work? These are tests to narrow down the problem.

After attempting to open/close with the door button, if that fails you could try a main battery disconnect for 10 minutes. This has worked to reset several options that have lost contact. Worth a shot.

Thanks. When I do the open close with the door i can get the trunk to move up and down but not latch. Still no action if I press the buttons on the panel. I have not tried it via keyless go.

Does the trunk latch if you manually close it?

When you close it with the button on the door are you holding the button all the way until the trunk lid is fully closed. In my car I have to do that.

Sounds like the lower soft close latch is stuck Mine's a '13 so I don't think the wave foot under bumper thing with keyless go came along until "14? your '16 has it with keyless go.

Hey you guys!

Happy new year! Hope all is well and warm in Chicago and Dallas, I have an off topic question; When you hit the E-S button on the console, what color is the "S" for sport mode on the dash? On my '12 the E and S are both gold, in the '13 the "E" is gold but the "S" is red. You guys?

Sorry for the thread hijack.

In my 2016, I'm almost certain the "S" is red, as in KEY08's. I will flip a coin to see if I go to the garage to test it. Happy New Year.

If you can close it manually and the lock motor drives it fully locked, then it sounds to me like something needs to be adjusted. I've read here in other threads that the latch assembly can be askew and manually repositioned slightly to make it latch.
