2014 E550 - oil leak

I just picked up a new to me 2014 e550 with 34K miles from a MB dealer - took it to local mechanic for a pre-warranty inspection and was told there was an undisclosed oil leak that would require 19.2 hours of labor and a quick $3K to fix. I required the removal of the turbo among everything else needed. Worth taking to another MB dealer for a pov? I can't imagine that this is actually an issue with such low miles. My 2011 is at 103K miles and has had zero issues (granted it is the tried and true 3.5 v6).

Questions:
1. Known issue/concern?
2. Worth taking another MB dealer for an inspection?
3. Worth buying a 3rd party warranty on the car?

Thanks!

I have learned that a typical oil leak issue with these engines is with cam shaft sensor plugs or cam shaft plugs whatever that means. I think these are some rubber plugs that start leaking and are quite easy to change. But this is just my understanding of it. Others may have better knowledge...

Wow a 2014 - with 34K on the clock - I want pics!!!
A unicorn!
Sucks about the oil leak - sorry I have a 2011 E550 - no turbos to know much about...

Good luck!

2014 E550-sold 😩
This is not a known issue, so searching around won’t produce much. Cam sensor plug leaks is normal, accessible, and a cheap fix. So, maybe take it back to the MB dealer and ask what’s up? Most MB dealers are fair when it comes to issues like this.

We had the common cam plugs leaking at about the same mileage as OP's '14. I'm wondering what exactly the Indy garage said was leaking? They must have found a source to provide such an expensive repair estimate...

I agree with KEY08 and would take it back to selling dealer with that estimate in hand - MB dealers should stand behind a used vehicle sale, especially since you just got it...

And for us, a 3rd party warranty paid out huge on our car, YMMV...

Forgot to add that my cam plugs have been replaced as well due to small leaks. This is very common.

I wouldn't pay a plug nickel on an "undisclosed" oil leak. Someone has some 'splaining to do.
