fastest selling used vehicles (E class #6)
This study https://www.iseecars.com/fastest-selling-cars-study shows our E class was the 6th fastest selling used car in January 2021.
Those ranked faster were either SUVs or sports cars, so the E class is the fastest selling used sedan
Good trivia to share with friends![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
(It's been below 0* in Wisconsin for 10 days, so I guess I'm really looking for things to do

To be honest, the E-Class vehicles ranked -- at $54,XXX -- are almost certainly 2-year old W213s. Just noting...

True enough, but have you seen the retail prices on the '12-'16 E's ? wow! I hear the wholesale prices are actually down, but the retail is sky-high, someone wants these cars.

2012 E350 sedan
One reason is that it is a very popular luxury lease car which then floods the market in some areas when they go off lease. The depressed market results in 3 year old cars with about 15K miles selling for about half of MSRP - a great bargain. SoCal is one of those areas. The dealer where I bought my CPO in SoCal said they get 1000 off lease cars a month returned.

I think on the new car sales, some of the stats are influenced by inventory levels. The GLS is a good example with notable Covid delays to build up the inventory.
Same for me on the CPO discount to new comparison for the same car. Bought mine as a lease return with approx 23k miles for 50% of the original price. But was drawn to the car because I love the looks and easy going driving manner.
I think for the 212’s, time is definitely on its side when compared to the new stuff out there, and the market is recognizing the shift to more techno related interiors which not all like. For giggles, I checked the market recently for what cars like mine with my mileage are selling for, and it’s certainly more today than it was a year ago.
it’s funny, I see the 2021’s of the e class and I can tell they’re trying to square them up a bit more to be closer in appearance to the 212. Less swoops where they can make the change easily (like the grill). They had the proportions of the design absolutely perfect on the 212, lost their way a bit on the 213, and now trying to get it back. I rarely see a 213 in my area, and we have a lot of MB’s roaming around of all class types. And I get several comments, compliments and questions “how do you like it? I really want one. I’ll drive mine until the wheels fall off, etc”. Still a lot of interest in these 212s and I think the used car market is starting to recognize that interest..

^my thoughts, exactly. My MB dealer keeps trying to put me into a new E53. I have absolutely no interest in that.

I do have to say, I would love to have a E63 wagon (or sedan) for a couple days to hoon around in. I'd probably lose my license getting tagged for triple digit speeds on the north coast.

I think MB fans appreciate the car for what it is, but appreciate it even more for what it is not. I remember a couple of YouTube reviewers saying during their review videos when I was trying decide between the E350 or BMW 535 that “it is as close to the old school Benz feel as you can get with a new car, and we love for that. It’s crashing suspension, dated transmission, unique seating position, all play into the experience when get behind the wheel and feel that hint of heritage as it effortlessly guides you through the corners and cruises down the road. It is classic as close as classic can get.” That sold me, and I totally agree..
When it came time to replace the family booger bucket (2013 Toyota Highlander), I went shopping again and hit all the usual brands. But it was only MB that lured us in on the GLS. Not for what it is, but for what it isn’t. Looked at the BMW X7, Audi Q7, the Lincoln Aviator, and so on. All very nice cars - but none had that sense of going through that one extra layer of design to make sure what they were doing was purposeful instead of gimmicky. All the screens, and buttons and whatnots - MB had figured out how to be the simplest and classy with just two simple screens across the dash. We love it too. I think MB has me now for a long time. I am actually thinking my beloved 2015 GTI will eventually become the AMG GLB someday when CPO’s on it start to show up.
the seat on the 212 - with some redneck engineering, can be tweaked a bit to be far more comfortable than it is, if needed. Mine was some kind of torture device, could sit on it for more than 20 minutes without stabbing pains. Now, I can do 16 hour drives with zero issues and be left with wanting to drive it more. MB figured out the seat issue on the GLS, but even that isn’t as comfortable as my 212 with a $200 tweak that includes a second set of support springs, a whack of the hammer on a couple of corners, and a few hand towels strategically placed inside the frame under the seat cushion itself.
