Bigger brakes for w212

Hello everyone, I have a 2014 e550 4 matic and recently got some 20 inch wheels. Now that I look at the rear caliper and brakes in general they look so small and ugly. I’m looking to change out the rear brakes maybe even the front ones for a big brake kit which would swap out the rear caliper. So long story short I want to change the brakes to bigger ones for the looks, has anyone done this before and what are the parts I’d have to change besides the calipers, rotors, and pads. Also does anyone know where I can get bigger brakes from? Thanks

Make sure when you're finding the new calipers that they were also from a 4matic vehicle. Heard you can't use a rwd's calipers on a 4matic. Was about to buy a 2015 C63's entire brake setup + rotors as I needed all new rotors+ all new pads anyway. I'd suggest looking at your local craigslist for part out vehicles, or eBay.

He already has those brakes stock. E63's would be the OEM option.

would I need to change the master cylinder or anything? Or is just a direct swap?

the brakes in that video are the ones I already have. The front caliper isn’t the issue, the back one is hideous especially when I put the 20s on it’ll look so small. The rear one is the one I need to change but if I get a good deal I would just swap all 4.

Rear brakes are always smaller. How much bigger will E63 ones "appear"? Add that to 20" wheels.... seems like a lot of money for something that won't "look" much different. You could powder coat or paint the stock calipers if you are looking to "bling" them up.

If those are the E63 brakes your referencing, then yes they are quite different (4 vs 6 piston front caliper and 4 piston fixed vs. 1 piston sliding rear). I was looking at a newer E63 which appeared to have sliding rear caliper like the stock E550, just painted a bright color and maybe slightly bigger.

One thing you'd need to confirm is whether the calipers will mount to the knuckle with the correct bolt pattern and radial distance for the rotor. I'd also suspect those parts are easily $1000k+ used and I would only put them in as a set (front and rear).

Maybe someone has done this conversion...

The E63 AMG rotors are $750/pair for starters, so these will add up quickly. I do believe, however that the part number for the master cylinder is the same across the E550 and E63. And I totally agree that if you are doing this you replace both front and rear.

just upgrading the rear brake to a bigger rotor and caliber will result in rear wheel lockups and/or excessive ABS engagement, and probably throw your 4ETS traction control completely out of whack.
