2014 E350 intermittent start issue

Hi all.
my wife's car has recently had starting issue.
it only happens after the car has been driven and warm. After we stopped and parked for a while, when we started the car it would turn over for a few second when we push the start button and died. After trying to start it 2 to 3 times, it would start. We are now afraid that one day it would not start and we would be stranded some where.
BTW, it has push button start.

I wonder it it is a weak battery or a fuel pump issue.

I figured if it is weak battery, it wont turn over. If it is the fuel pump, it would turn over a long time and won't start, not just turn over for 2-3 seconds.

Any hint would be much appreciated.

I have decent mechanics skills, as I rebuilt engines and fix problems on other cars. I don't have much experience with mercedes.
Thanks

well, first thing I'd test is battery voltage.

when its been parked overnight fully charged, the voltage should be around 12.6V at the battery, adjust a little for temperature. If that initial voltage is below about 12.1V, your battery is heavily discharged.

if it is lugging when you are trying to start, then your battery is not delivering enoughn current, its dead, time for a new one.

once the engine is running, it should something like 13.8-14.4 volts, that says the charging system (alternator) is working.

if all that is OK, then I'd wonder about the fuel delivery.

you can pull that pushbutton out of your 'pushbutton start', and insert the smartkey like a real key and turn it, then you can manually control the starter.

Can you get it hooked up to a MB specific scanner?

long drives may cause AGM DISCHARGE...

Have you managed to evaluate your main battery charge level ? Realistically it should be better than 12.5v at rest witout load.
How old is this battery??

FAILSAFE TIPS:
1- Opening DRIVER DOOR while parked, engine running guaranties a 14.5V charge voltage is generated. Do this for 10 to 20 mn if you suspect a low battery charge.

2- Driving with the HEADLIGHTS ON guaranties a 13.5V charge while driving else voltage normaly swings down to 12.6V after complete charge (or possibly into lower voltages if a problem has matured).
