Assuming the rear springs are original their likely due for replacement... could be the leak is "exposed" when the car is lifted and when under its own weight less so.

I'd either replace them, as I said their likely due anyway. Otherwise, just drive the car and see if you notice any issues like a corner dropping overnight or the airmatic raising message too often.

The rear springs are original at 72k miles. I have an appointment with my Mercedes mechanic on may 10th to diagnose it and replace whatever needs to be. I wont be doing any driving other than a trip to my exhaust shop out of fear that it’ll break the compressor

Don't forget a drop of more than ~3/4" is too much overnight... so it doesn't have to be slammed to be a leaking air spring. MB says ~1/2" drop is acceptable overnight.

You shouldn't have to fear... thats people who drive around for months/years with a leaking system. Just drive around for a bit, park on a semi-flat surface, lock the car, come back in 2 hours look for any drop, measure each corner, then come back in the morning and recheck the height.

Go from there.

I think your just worried because of recent events and "damage"... if your mechanic is going to diagnose and fix, then let him figure it out.

+1.

And driving it with a leaking air spring will wear out your compressor so it is better to replace the springs. This is relatively low cost repair as the Arnott springs cost is only about $550 and the job is very easy to do. At dealer you talk about a whole lot more cost as just one spring cost the same as two Arnotts. And then they charge you 5-6 hours for a 40 min job, if that in the shop with lifts and all...

I will be buying oem as I have access to wholesale distributors for parts. My worry is the air compressor like you mentioned, so my driving will be very limited until the issue is diagnosed and fixed

I had the leak and first it was confusing as sometimes car did not go down all the way but then other times it did. The issue was leak in my left rear spring and what confused me was that when I left the suspension in Sport mode it went down all the way but in Comfort mode it did not. It lowered but did not go all the way. Reason is that with the higher stand in Comfort mode the one spring develops enough pressure to keep the car up when the other leaks. In Sport mode the lower stand does not allow enough stroke for developing the needed pressure to hold car up. The springs meet the bottom before that.

Try it. Leave the car in Sport mode and Comfort mode and see if there is a difference.

I’d only buy OE or Arnotts and stay away from Suncore or RMT, the former is cheap import and latter has poor C/S.

Even wholesale price for OE, I bet, is more than Arnott. I’ve never seen an OEM for air springs...

For example, 2011 E550 factory struts and shocks are Monroe, but they don't supply them independently. For shocks your stuck with MB and the struts either new or rebuild from MB, Arnott or RMT.

Another thing you want to avoid is washing it on touchless carwash. They will spray down the height sensors, and throw them out of wack for a while.
