Missing Hood Seal?

Looking at a previous thread I believe I am missing a seal but I am unable to locate these parts in the online parts diagrams. If anyone could help me out that would be great.

The first photo is where I believe a seal should be attached and the second shows a long scratch which I believe is caused by the lack of seal.

Possibly missing seal?

Scratch caused by hitting plastic.

I think it is the fan shroud and the seals are integrated?

https://www.mercedesbenz.parts/oem-p...oud-2075000255

I looked at some on eBay and it appears they have the seals as part of the fan shroud.

Yes, there is a rubber strip there moulded to the fan shroud. I think if you do not want to get a new fan shroud, you can try to get some sort of flat rubber like seal and stick it to the hood instead.

Thanks.

I'll probably just order the fan shroud. Should not be too much work to remove/replace.

This seal is falling apart in my car too and I plan to use just generic hood seal for it before replacing that shroud. In your car someone has just removed all of that very thin plastic "lip" seal leaving a lean edge where you could push a type of seal like in below link.

Arrie,
The seal you linked, could be a bit too thick. Thick in the sense that it has only one direction to shrink, which is down 6 o'clock exactly and it will remain quite thick.
The original seal is a kinda parabolic ( like half moon shape ) but 1 side only being "glued" to fan shroud and direction of squeeze is towards front bumper and it can be squeezed down without significant "thickness" left behind.
Sorry for my limited/weird explanation, what I simply mean is, the original seal will fold away easier under hood pressure and will not hamper hood closing. I think you know what I mean.

The hood lock sensor is a very sensitive device, at least in my car and most likely the same in all W212.
What I fear is, the compressed thickness of the proposed Metro seal can create extra gap on the hood to grille interface.

I think if we use plastercine clay to gauge/measure the available gap between fan shroud top vertical lip towards hood contact pressure area, we can tell how many
millimeters allowance we have to work with.

Man,

the seal I posted was just an example of what kind you could use...

Go buy the new part so it will be absolutely correct.

I ordered the new part as I would obsess over getting the seal right and probably spend just as much on various versions.

Next on the list having the oxidization removed from the headlight lenses.

Also check that your hood has not been adjusted to close too tight. If it hits the plastic so hard it takes the paint out, like your picture shows, there is no room for any kind of a seal and under this condition your new part can loose the seal quickly.
