Any recommendations for adding carplay to 2014E350? Currently considering two systems, the first replaces the existing display with a Android based larger touch screen display with external mic and gps antenna. The second is just adding carplay through AUX without replacing the existing system. I wonder whether the Android based touch screen display is an overkill if I just want to use carplay with the apps on my iphone. Thanks.

having used touchscreens while driving, I would *FAR* farther have the knob integration and NO touch screen when I'm behind the wheel. if the road is at all bumpy, touch screens are unusable.
Wait this is that same unit?
Oh wait, I now see that thread (which I haven't checked in in for a while) has been updated to show this piece instead. Thank you!
The size of the original 7 inch screen is almost the same as the 6.7 inch screen of iphone 11/12 pro max on a holder. I wonder if it is worth the effort of tearing the panels apart to integrate the road top unit while keeping the original 7 inch screen.
The android based system with the 10.25 screen looks nicer but I wonder if it is able to integrate existing the steering wheel buttons and the knob seamlessly. I read that the existing mic won't work and an external mic is to be installed. In that case, some functionality of the existing system is gone.
FWIW, I installed one of these with a 7" original screen and I find the size to be adequate (on Carplay; Apple did a pretty good job of working with the pixels and size that they had to work with). I considered the alternatives but I still can't stand the "tacked on" look of detached screens EVEN IF they are OEM.
) because i didn’t want to tear my dash apart. I have it installed on a cup holder stand for now and haven’t done wiring or driven too far for location. I am hopeful.
Interesting solution... Trying to figure out how this is better than a mounted iPhone.
IMHO it adds complexity of the extra bluetooth connection and additional (not to mention the looks) equipment to achieve the same result as dash mounted iPhone.
Am I missing something?
