Sure, I could climb under the glovebox and start taking things apart to see if there's an air filter buried in there (yes, that's a dumb place to put the air filter compared to my 211) but is there a better way? Do ALL the W212's have the cabin air filter? I've yet to see a definitive answer online.

Of course they all do. Not sure what you mean about a code verifying the presence of a CF. Are you talking about a listing on your data card?

Three screws and two wire connectors... super easy, compared to a W124 or BMW E36. Easiest was wife's Civic, open glovebox, two tabs to fully lower glove box and right in front of you was the filter access tray. Like a 5 min change.

Here you go:

Two options: 2-zone (code 580) or 3-zone (code 581)... both feature a filtration filter. What gave you cause to suspect no filter... just curious?

Yes, a 3 digit code on the data card. Sounds like a non-issue, and I'll be ordering up a filter tonight. ROMwife and I are going to hit the Missoula fair in a couple of weeks and I do believe Montana is on fire. Her lungs will appreciate clean air for the drive.

To knowledge, there is NO fault code for the cabin air filter. However, it may be recommended to change it every "X" miles, or when the periodic maintenance code comes up, according to the computer (taking it off what the computer says is the miles on your vehicle). On a few of my vehicles, I have never changed the cabin air filter. With as much as the MB stealership charged me this weekend, I'm likely to start doing my own preventative maintenance.

It all depends on the environment that you are driving in, big city, desert, etc. When I was doing my own oil/filter changes on my Grand Ams, I would clean out my cabin air filter every 10,000 miles, when I was in NM, but when I got to the desert in SoCal (Edwards AFB), I would pull the filter at every oil change and clean it out. If I couldn't get it to clean out to my satisfaction, then I would replace it.

I change the engine air filter and cabin filter after every spring. Thanks to FCP Euro, I haven't actually paid for these 2 items in years on both my W212 and BMW F30. Super easy to do in both cars.
