Eco Mode Has Been Resurrected

I bought a used 2016 E-350 in 2019. I was pleased the Eco Mode did not cut the engine off nearly as much as my old C-300. I recently had to replace the main battery in the E-350 and now the ECO Mode seems to cut the engine off at every stop. Can anyone explain why replacing the main battery would resurrect the Eco Mode? I have not changed the battery on the trunk.

There are multiple parameters that the vehicle checks for before allowing it to happen. One is if the engine, transmission temperature is optimal for the start/stop system to function. The other one is the voltage of the battery (as you know, the higher the charge of the battery equals higher voltage (up to the rated voltage of the battery), an old battery might not be able to reach that voltage (in which is required for start/stop to work effectively) all the time due to the irreversible chemical reactions that happened when the battery ages.

The ECU runs a routine that decides if the many "Engine Cut Off" conditions are satisfied.
The ability to RESTART the engine comes on top of the list.

Battery Health is evaluated by a smart battery sensor that measures Temp, Amps, Volts. The battery internal resistance and charge level are calculated under load by the sensor.

You can easily force a BATTERY-RELEARN by power cycling the small connector from your Hyundai sensor.
You'd want to do that after working on your charging circuit to better tailor the ALT voltage profile.

W212 can display the live Batt sensor Amps/Volts under "Engineering Menu"... an interesting scene to keep an eye on while driving on highways.

Anytime you replace the main battery (which controls ECO mode... not Aux Batt), the parameter checks show an optimal battery charge (new), so ECO mode works with a vengeance.

My 2016 E350 did exactly the same when I replaced the main battery (as others have posted), and I expect all cars do the same with a new main battery.
