Rattle Pano Sunroof
Hello all!
I have done a bunch of searches but maybe I missed the right one. My sunroof hasn’t made any noises since I’ve owned until today.
it has an occasional rattle going over bumps or when the bass is relatively heavy. As soon as I crack it a hair, it stops. Now it’s been single digits temp wise and I’m wondering if it’s just related to the weather and will stop when it gets a little warmer?
Any advice is welcome
Thank you,
Chris

The pano roof can squeak as the body is twisted when going over curbs one wheel at a time, it reminds me of my '01 SL500 with the hardtop on, there are threads about tightening the four center brace bolts and re-loctite-ing them. The big hole in the roof causes body flex to increase a lot.
In the spring I may well take the headliner down and re-torque and loctite the bolts as a precautionary measure since it’s at 61k miles now.
Thank you both @S-Prihadi @pierrejoliat . I will continue to pick your brains (along with MBworld) as things arise and share what I learn along the way.
GO RAIDERS!!

so this post reminded me to open my pano completely and Armor-All all the seals, so it doesn't squeak from the cold. My bolts are still fine but I'm @ 31K.

Yeah, no squeak, just a rattle from the sunroof portion as best I could tell. Well today is a solid 10 degrees warmer at 22F and the rattle is gone. I’m guessing as everything contracted at single digits it was just enough to give play somewhere.

I had my mechanic do this a while ago and it's still fine. Took less than an hour, doesn't take that much to drop the rear headliner which is all you need, it's the middle and rear bolts which get loose, more like screws than bolts. Still quiet years later. I think in some of the other posts, they have the dealer do it and they don't use loctite so it loosens up again a year or two later. It's more pronounced if you go over a ramp at an angle. The car is basically a box and it flexes when going over things at an angle unless those screws are tight.

Had this problem and it progressively got a little worse over time. Quite irritating really but luckily its a really easy fix.
Open sun roof and with warm soapy water clean:
1) All edges of glass, remove any algae from under edges of glass
2) Wipe down areas where the glass meets the roof, again remove any algae
3) Wipe down all rubber seals that meet the glass
4) allow all to dry
5) Spay SILICONE LUBRICATING SPRAY onto a dry cloth and wipe all the rubber seals using a liberal amount of spray - really work it into the seals and ensure you do this all the way around
This resolves the issue completely,
I suggest whilst doing this and you have the SILICONE LUBRICATING SPRAY at hand, that you do the same with all door seals. This improves the seals and quietens the car interior and should lengthen the life of the seals..
