Been doing abit of research online. I scanned my car with my scan tool and got 9 codes. All misfiring cylinders and oxygen sensors from a faulty Throttle Actuator I'm guessing. Where do I even begin to diagnose what part has failed. Priced out a Throttle Actuator from the stealership omg $1350cdn+Tax. Iam mechanically inclined have tools scan tool ect. But I have not alot of great videos on YouTube to help me with diagnosing this issue. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.
2016 E400 4matic Coupe bought used 2nd owner 62,000kms on Engine.
Ok so the other day I cold started it and went inside for 5mins came back out and I heard it revving highly like way past 1000rpm by its self but dropped down to idle as I walked up. Check engine light was on but I didn't scan the car I turned it off and on and the light went away. Today I was driving down the highway and after about 2hrs straight driving the car starting misfiring lost all Power and smoking out of the exhaust from unburnt fuel. I'm guessing the Throttle body wasn't opening atall. I pulled over shut the car off plugged in scan tool and got 9 codes starting with P2101 Throttle Actuator. I cleared all the codes restarted the car and everything was running smoothly and running perfectly again. After another few hours I reached the city and bam check engine light again car running perfectly but P2101 back again.
Xentry should run a TB sweep and calibration procedure. Check the harness connection, maybe someone had it off and didn't plug it in all the way/crushed it with the IM (ask me how I know)/busted it some other way. Anyway, even if you need a whole new unit, what's the big deal?

That is the question I forgot to ask my dealer. Is the Throttle Actuator attached to the Throttle body? I haven't been able to source an aftermarket Actuator but I can buy a new TB from Bosch.
Here are throttle body photos of my M276 3.0 TT same engine as yours , hope you can visualize better
Thank you brotha. I did some research on that part and I think I might just replace the entire unit. But I'm confused to the location of the Throttle Actuator? Is it the motor that turns the gears inside that black housing attached to the Throttle body?
I never put a Tune on yet plan to tho. Not sure if the previous owner did.

Yes, its the motor which is called the actuator.
scanners can call a same item by different names .... LOL
U need to buy complete unit
Thank you for that information. I kinda been leaning towards that conclusion. It's much cheaper to buy a new TB online than buying the Actuator from the dealer.
p.s., I'd still try to run the TB through whatever Xentry diagnostics are available, it may be just fine but got thrown out of whack somehow. It doesn't seem to be an issue on ours, and I have manually manipulated the butterfly valve on mine when I pulled it off to clean it during a bunch of engine maintenance I was performing, but that's not the case with my 2014 Nissan Maxima TB, which is stated explicitly in the factory service manual to NOT manually manipulate the butterfly valve or you risk damaging the actuator motor/sensor.
Problem is you'll be paying for shop time at probably at least an hour minimum and the eBay unit I linked for you is probably less than whatever the dealer will charge for an hour. If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate buying the new one. if it works, great, if not, you have a spare. And that TB is pretty much the TB used on every freakin car they produced.

Just bought a brand new unit off RockAuto.com for $352CDN shipped to my door
Yup, buy the whole thing. All electronics and stepper motor are inside the TB. Prihadi strikes again!
eBay is your friend!
I agree and was my plan once I figured out the Actuator is built into the TB. RockAuto had one for $352Cdn shipped to my door. Ebay had the same brand for $450Cdn still good deal but RockAuto.com is where I usually buy my Benz parts. The dealer was selling only the Actuator for $1350Cdn lord have mercy.
there is customs and extra fees from that seller where rockauto doesn't have any of that. It would be interesting to see what actually cost would be once it reached my hands.
