Ahh cool, thank you. I remember reading a while back that someone was told we'd get an update to the module used for this, but I guess that's not happening. Oh well.

I don't think we can update the 3G hardware into a 5G hardware.

FYI: Some W212 have an issue where the cellular module keeps trying to "phone-home" until handshake is successful. That bus "keep-awake" drains the system battery in the process.

OK, probably a dumb question, but how does this effect Blue Tooth? I have a 4G cell phone through Verizon and so far no problems. I have never used any of the mbrace features and never subscribed to it.

3G, 4G and 5G are for phone calls, text messages and data to and from a a cellular phone network. Bluetooth only connects your phone or device to the car - not the cellular network.

Mid City Engineering has a module that they say will adapt all of the functions lost when Mercedes Me stops with the end of 3G phone systems on 1 December. https://www.midcityengineering.com/mb3gsundown/ Supposedly it communicates through a smart phone just as Mercedes Me communicates. Has anyone tried that module? Is so, how does it work?

thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.
only things that worry me are the reliability & security of the provider even for those who don’t use remote start. Still can’t believe that Mercedes didn’t come up with a workaround even for a fee.

update: They can pack sand for the kit. I understand it cost money to develop new technology, but still. $749 plus a monthly fee. 😂🤣😅

This new module is not a replacement. It's a glorified remote-starter with a GPS tracker. It offers some similar functions but is minimally exclusive as everyone can imagine.

The new module integration into the car is limited to electrical functions. It does not go deep into COMAND with Send-To car functions, battery-drain monitoring and the likes.

I agree that Mercedes should develop and provide/sell us a similar system. The price does seem steep but didn't we have to pay an annual subscription fee for MBrace or Mercedes Me?

I notice reference to several other (6) Class Action Lawsuits but not MBZ.
Perhaps there will be a way to make one sweeping Class Action vs. all manufacturers that knew 3G was going away but made no provision to change or upgrade all of the various makes and models affected.

Oh well, due to the loss of 3G features I lose some auto insurance policy discounts. Time to renew my policiy and I have to certify these to get discounts:

"Does your vehical have a vechicle recovery system with an active subcrption?"

"Does the subsciption remain active?"
