2012 E350 4Matic - Main Battery replacement

Greetings, It's that time. I've gotten 10 years out of my original MAIN battery. Time for a replacement.
I've done a brief search here for tips / tricks / steps on W212 MAIN BATTERY Replacement with little to no results/success.

This job seems pretty straightforward. Have any of you done W212 MAIN battery replacement and can you offer tips/tricks/experiences?
10mm and 13mm unbolt and replace. right?
- is it worth it (or absolutely needed) to supply voltage from a portable source whilst removing MAIN battery?
- what will I lose / have to reset if I do NOT supply voltage during swap?
- OEM MB battery from dealer best bet? or Die Hard AGM okay? Or any other store bought brand? what did ya'll go with?
- etc?
- A few youtube videos on this - again - appears to be a no brainer / pretty straightforward ... famous last words, right?
thanks in advance, everyone. Much obliged

I have a 2011 S212 and when my main went I went with an Interstate AGM MTX-49 battery. I didn't supply aux voltage while removing the main. If you go with the dealer for an OEM be prepared to pay a larger premium. I've had the Interstate for about 4 years now with no problems.
For the auxiliary battery, I went with OEM from FCP Euro.

Not sure why you couldn’t find any threads, because there are a ton. It is straight forward like any other battery swap.

The main battery is a Varta battery which was made by JCI/Clarios. If you have a Pepboys, probably the Champion AGM battery, it's got a 48 month warranty. Die Hard was acquired by Advance Auto and JCI/Clarios also made die hard batteries. Interstate is a battery distributor and it can vary who the actual maker may be, could be JCI, Exide or East Penn. Most of AGM batteries in the H6 size seem to be JCI/Clarios. Advance Auto and Autozone are pretty close in price but they only do a 36 month warranty as opposed to the 48 from Champion/Pepboys. My guess is that the battery is probably still fine. My 2011 still has the original battery as my 2008 E-350, that one is over 14 years old at this point, although I'm going to dump it later this year, it won't make another winter as it barely started the car this winter on a super cold day. You could put the battery on a charger and what the final voltage is after fully charging it. There are many state of charge charts out there, if the voltage indicates less than 80% original capacity, then I'd replace otherwise just keep it charged up. If that's too much trouble, just take it for a good drive and then go to an auto parts store and have the charging system load tested. Most of the big chains do it for free.

I didn't supply any power to the car while the battery was removed, in my case nothing seemed to be reset as a result of the battery removal, and I replaced it with a Bosch S5 AGM battery.

It is truly very straight-forward and you can't go wrong unless you are an ape.

The only problem with Bosch is that Exide makes the batteries for them and they are worse than JCI/Clarios. Pepboys used to carry them but they got rid of them. And yes, I've disconnected my battery before for various repairs and didn't have to do anything after reconnecting it.

my favorite auto battery maker in general is East Penn, they make the Deka and Intimadator series as well as various premium store brand batteries (I've had "Duracell" branded Group 48's that I'm pretty sure were East Penn).

The Deka Ultimate 9AGM48 is an 'exact fit' series Group 48 H6 AGM suitable for these cars, and the 9AGM49 is a Group 48 H8 AGM, ditto.

I avoid Exide because they have a long history of creating superfund class toxic messes and playing political games to avoid cleanup costs. 99% of Exide batteries are rebranded so it is hard to know what you are getting.

Just to close this out. Yep - as stated on this thread, this is an old-school-easy job.
Literally just terminal post bolts (10mm) loosen
Battery clamp bolt (13mm) undo.
Lift battery out.
New battery in.
Tighten up.
Other cars are modern BMW's so I reckon they've caused me un-due stress when it comes to battery swaps.
fyi, went with the Autozone purchased Die Hard Platinum AGM H7 (perfect fit)
thanks, all
