99¢ Resistor to reset all codes?
Can't stand this guy's voice and flailing arms, but this trick to reset codes is interesting... Has anyone heard of this?

Yes, I am aware of his dislike of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Korean cars, etc. Actually, any car not made in America... which is easy since almost no cars are made in America anymore.
But... Since a good number of threads here deal with clearing codes, I am interested in views regarding his suggestion...

It seems that we share a common dislike for SK ridiculous click-bait. His scripted content is often moronic and insulting to fair minded people.
Try watching "Diagnose Dan" channel: he is both funny and extremely smart.
In the old days you could get dashboard lights to blink codes for engine, tranny, abs... simply by using a paper-clip strap.
With OBD2, we don't have to keep struggling with the basics. It's easy to access the results of software sel-tests.
The real problems left are those unidentified by codes, sometimes hiden in data or found with time sucking troubleshooting.

Most people just connect + & - and be done with it without worry of the things he worries about - what he suggests would be safer to computers.
But I would prefer using a code reader that can reset since maybe you only need to reset one computer for say Command system or Reset the check engine light or tire sensor thingy.
Also I wonder if these newer cars use some sort of EPROM (FLASH Memory) now to remember things in lieu of always needing power of some sort above 9vdc be it car battery or back up battery or capaciters on boards.

It the resistor works, it is certainly much more preferable to blowing a single (expensive) module on any MB, yes?

Well maybe SURE.. but remember we have that aux battery in trunk... so it has to be disconnected- -and whereelse do they have em hiding small power sources as emergency memory backup?
I dunno as each model/year etc is different. so to quote a crap harid dryer cord label - use ate your own risk and not in a shower.
Personally I just use my BD2 hand held as most "Car learned" traits are with engine and tranny...
I am not really worried about what my AC has learned I prefer.

The short answer is "maybe"
The honest answer is "why chance it"
I've been up close with most modules in this W212 car and personally I do not short my leads during reboots.
I let the power stay out for 5 to 15mn, it is plenty good enough. If you are pressed for time, deal with something else more urgent. There are no benefit in shorting batt leads, why do it?
MAIN + AUX:
Disconnecting AUX or it's new troublesome incarnation with the 4x 1Farad super-caps is a must. When MAIN is out AUX powers a backup path through R-SAM

95% of those cheap ELM327 are quite broken clones, its hard to find a 'good' one that can properly read the canbus etc. Apps like Torque can only handle generic ODBC stuff and not all the myriads of Mercedes specific subsystems, never mind tasks like coding... For that you need Xentry/Vediamo. If you have a Ford, there's a great app, FORSCAN Lite, that works with a /good/ ELM327 and reads all the Ford specific stuff, but noone has done this for Mercedes.

yes obviously cheap elm327 is only for standard obd2 codes, wasn't recommending it as an alternative to proper diagnostic systems, but it still better than a resistor or a paperclip imho,
I use launch to read what i need on mb, if there is something it doesnt read its probably above my level anyway.
