About strut assembly of E350,

Hello

I've ordered strut parts and while I try to assemble those I have one inquiry.

The strut mount part and strut bumper is not tightly fit.

The bumper put on the mount, and not tightly fit.

I would love to know if it is normal for MB.

I appreciate for your replies.

Many thanks,

I'm not even sure what you're asking. Sounds like you're talking about the bumper stop. Never noticed the fit, didn't think it really mattered. The bumper stop only seems to kick in when the car bottoms out, there should be a gap between the bumper stop and the mount.

In my experience, when the bump rubber isn't tightly installed on the mount, because the bump stopper is movable, whenever the damper is compressed, you could easily hear the rattling noise from the bump stopper; I was asking because I've never seen any OEM that has not tightly held the bump stopper on the strut insulator mount. BMW, VW, Toyota, and Hyundai, they all have strut mount that holds tight the bump stopper. It does matter in my opinion; not in the functioning aspect, but in the noise aspect. That's why I was curious if I order wrong items or MB used to do it in this way.

Thanks for this, konigstiger

I re-checked the attached file and it is exactly what I bought. A212-323-00-20 for the plate and A212-321-09-06 for the bumper.

That bump stop does hug the damper's shaft (piston) well. I would not say it locks well, but has friction by compression feel to it.

Take a look here.... start at post #2 for front suspension
