Was my E-550 exhaust upgraded?
Have a 2014 E-550 that I bought used. Noticed that it has a relatively loud / deep exhaust tone when I start it, and then quiets down after about a minute of warmup. Love the sound, and I assumed it was "standard" on this model. When I was getting my emissions tested, the guy commented on the sound and asked, "Did you get the AMG exhaust system on this car?" I didn't know the answer, and I don't see any VIN decode option codes indicating any kind of exhaust upgrade. So now wondering if previous owner might have done an aftermarket exhaust upgrade. Since I don't have any way to contact them, is there an easy way to tell, or is this the way the standard exhaust system sounds? Pic attached.
Thanks

You appear to be missing both silencers. Just a welded pipe to the tips. Can't tell if anything else was deleted. Double check and put your foot to the floor in the next on ramp. In my experience doing such things you would get a horrendous howl or train horn like sound by doing that.
My 550 is a 13 and is super quiet. Little bit of rumble at start up because of cold start fueling.

I've floored it previously as you said, but wouldn't consider the sound to be as you describe. Rather it was a nice loud V8 roar. I don't have any issues with the current sound, but just wanting to know why it's like. So I guess missing the silencers would account for that. Thanks for the feedback!

Your response also got me to look up some info on the stock exhaust system. From what I can quickly tell, it looks like the mufflers (circled in red on attached diagram) were removed vs the resonators? Any harmful side effects from this that I need to worry about - other than just the sound level which I like?

Upgraded? Not sure I would call removal of the mufflers an upgrade. The turbos are hard on perfecting an exhaust note without a complete system. Pulling resonators and mufflers is not the way to go.

I don't get why anyone with a highly sophisticated high performance luxury car like a W212 E550 would want it to sound like a malaise era Detroit V8 with rusted out cherry bombs
but then, I always liked sleepers. silent but deadly.
I'm still amused when I get some joker in a late model Mustang GT or whatever making all kinda noises at the red light, then I hit the go-fast pedal in "S" mode on my wife's bone stock E350 Luxury wagon and leave him a good distance behind me for the first few 100 feet. I back off before hitting felony speeds, and let him rip by to catch a performance award from the next CHP.

Have given some lessons to some "Sports Cars" drivers in my living area during the past few years. One particular case was a Camaro with the "Indy 500 Official Pace Car" stickers on it. Was to be fastest of them, I guess.
Anyway, the guy in front of me floored it from a stop and I floored it too, of course. Could have passed him easily but at 85 MPH I let it go.
Bet the guy did not know what a 2010 E550 family sedan with its four doors has under the hood...and mine does not make any sounds either...

Well I guess I'm the weird one here...
Any of the 550 models sound great with a muffler delete because they pretty much sound stock under 3500 rpm.
Higher than that, it has of course, a great v8 noise.
And I mean no offense, but a Mustang GT should annihilate a 350.
