Hi everyone in the need of opinions on this offer I’ve received from someone I know on a 2014 E350 with 201k miles, the car body wise isn’t the best but can be fixed up, my concern however is engine life, how long can these w212s go for with the right maintenance. Generally I wouldn’t consider such an offer but for the price of $ 4000 it would be odd to not think about it, any feedback is greatly appreciated!
I'm assuming miles? or kilometres. There isnt too much that goes wrong other then the need for new tensioners and camshaft magnets. Its DIY-able but 12 hours

The engine isn't really anything to worry about in these if maintained, there have been some reports of high pressure fuel pump failures but it's not exactly common, and noisy timing chain tensioners which often pops up on engines that haven't received regular oil changes with quality oil. At that mileage unless the car has been impeccably maintained it's all the little things that start adding up real quick. Rebuilding the suspension alone could come close to the $4000 purchase price especially at a shop, then you have things like engine mounts, flex discs, worn interior parts, and if it needs body work that gets really expensive. Depending on what that car needs, you may find that for the price of the car plus any repairs/deferred maintenance you could buy one with fewer miles that's been well looked after.
Do you do your own repairs? If not I would think twice about it, things wear out and break on any vehicle with over 200k miles and labor charges add up quick if you have to go to a shop for everything.

This is the car as it’s being sold by a private seller and not a dealer and yes 201k miles, in terms to this post and the one below the car gets most of its maintenance done at the school I attend because it is an automotive high school and we work on cars there, we just did an oil change on it recently as well as replacing both batteries and the alternator when scanning the car no codes come up interior peice are under faded as well as some light seat wear in terms of the exterior the front and rear bumper needs replacing as well as the rear right fender, for that condition I will most likely try and novitiate for a lower price
Zooming at the photo, I could not see radar sensors on the bumper, so likely the car is not the highly optioned nor panoramic roof. That is, fewer modules to go wrong in the long term
I could not see (too many reflections on a dark color) why would you replace the bumpers? Perhaps just repaint (with an specialist) them?
Update:
- I see the missing silver trim on the edge. That is a replaceable part if I recall correctly.
- US $4000 ? is it something else wrong with the car?
- With 200K miles in the NorthEast, parked outside, likely heavily exposed to the elements. You may want to check the brake lines, ALL of them, and other corrosion signs overall.
- Moisture smell in the cabin? Water leaks?

I have a video of the car but unfortunately it’s too big to post on here but the car indeed is missing the lower trim piece on both sides of the bumper as well as all 4 wheels being curbed and scratched, with a rusted and scratched what seems to be rear right fender flare and scratched rear door that seems to run towards the back of the car possibly a side swipe, along with pain damage or the rear bumper, multiple scratches and a severe scratch for another vehicle on the right side of the rear bumper, rusted and damage rear right quarter right panel near the twilight more paint damage near the side skirts which seems to come from rock chips, damaged side skirt near the front right tire and then one again missing lower front bumper trim
Here's your service sheet. Provide VIN and I will pull your data card showing equipment, etc. One thing that comes to mind, see attached bulletin.

If you have access to the car outside, the vin is on the windshield by the driver's side so you don't need the door open to see the metal vin decal. But as others said for $4k, it's a cheap car. Full NADA retail is about 12.7k, but it's not in that kind of condition. But even rough condition it's a 6.3k. Looks like it probably just has the sports package. It has the nicer AMG wheels. Other thing to check is the rear subframe, some reports of rusting back there and then a whole new subframe isn't that cheap and labor intensive to replace. Still for 4k, it's not a bad deal considering how overpriced cars are these days. Even if you only get a couple years out of it, you'd have gotten your moneys worth and it's probably still work 4k in a couple years as long as it's running. As long as you have access to the shop or know other people who can help you repair it, maintenance shouldn't be too bad it's really the labor at the dealership that will kill you.
I watched Wheeler Dealer's episode featuring Jaguar S Type R a while ago . The car had covered almost 200K miles with a service history. Despite high mileage, Mike Brewer bought himself that car and aside from supercharger which was not serviced at all the car proved that you could buy a high mileage car .Well. if a Jaguar can do it why not a Mercedes-Benz W212.
I watched that program with a great concern and interest because I'm in the market for buying a W221 with M273 or M278 and the chances those cars will have come with 100K miles or more .

Seems like it is missing the adaptive high beam assist as well.
It's very rare to actually find a car that has the lighting package.
On some of the new cars, I look at the window sticker and while they might have the driver's assistance package, no lighting package.
Honestly, other than just the aesthetics of the lights I think as long as you live in the city or you don't drive frequently at night, the lighting package is not a must have.
Do we by any chance have more rural areas being the reason why we have these optioned more here?
Probably more to do with how the dealers order them. Most cars are sold off the lot so if you have too many options, the price of the car goes up and then people shop around with different makes and there's also a reason why people buy Lexus and other models, they may be cheaper because they have fewer options. It's why most of the time the car just has a P1 package and then maybe one or two options and that about it. Fewer people place a specific order for a car so if you find one with a lot of options, it was probably ordered that way by someone specifically willing to pay for them.
