We have a w212 e220 2009 that got crashed and the ESP module was damaged (the motherboard on the unit cracked). So I bought a used ESP unit from a w207 coupe and installed it. After replacing it I still got the EDB, ESP, ABS inoperable error on the dash, so I ordered an openport2.0 and xentry diagnostic tool. Xentry was showing VIN mismatch, after reading on the internet I managed to write the VIN of the car to the ESP unit with Vediamo.
Now when I clear all the fault codes and strat the car everything seems fine, but when I start driving the ESP light/error comes back, but at least ABS seems to work now. After that the car throws the errors shown in the picture below.
The part number of the original esp and the donor are the same, but the w207 datacard says that it's a 350cdi automatic with variable power-steering, and my car is a manual without variable steering so I guess I have to somehow recode the unit to match the features of my car. A lot of places on the internet mention that it's easiest to read the coding of the old unit and than use it to recode the new unit, but the problem is the old unit is irretrievably damaged.
Does someone have experience with such issues, or can someone point me in the right direction how to recode a used ESP module on this cars?
UPDATE: I managed to find a similar spec car and download the ESP variant coding from it. Then I coded my car with the values that made most sense. Now almost everything works ABS, ESP and I have only one error code "644F00 Y10 SPEED SENSITIVE POWER STEERING SELENOID VALVE".
The car has a small steering fluid leak for a few months so it seems plausible that the valve on the steering pump is maybe defective. I will have to investigate this further, maybe it's just a bad connection like a user on the forum had on his w204 power-steering-short-circuits .
I just hope the Y10 valve is replaceable and i don't have to replace the whole servo pump if it isn't a bad connection issue.
UPDATE 2: I fixed the power steering. The variant coding of the ESP module was still incorrect. The car doesn't have the option 213 SPEED-SENSITIVE POWER STEERING/VARIO STEERING and at first I didn't see that there is an ParameterLenkung(PML) flag in the variant coding, setting it from YES to NO fixed the power steering problem for me. I hope that this info helps someone in the future, but then again you probably shouldn't try this at home because you could mess up a lot of things if you don't know what you are doing. I think that there a few guys here on the forum like BenzNinja who can do this stuff remotely if you have a J2534 OBD interface.
Mine started acting up again this morning after a couple years..one of my IR bulbs went bad a couple days ago which knocked out the night vision but that’s an easy fix, and can also set off the abs/esp light..could that be the issue here?
This does look like your solderless ESP module is having serious issues...time to stop driving this vehicle.
> Question is will we be able to get it going again??
Before replacing your ESP, let us make sure it's not upset from by its external environment: CANBus or poor GND.
-- Can you pls scan the whole car for faults, not only ESP module.
We want to assess what sort of storm may blowing around additional upsets.
-- Next you can always entertain a free regimen of "Reset/Reboot/Reset" to try resuming best car behaviors under 30mn.

A7/3 vs. N47-5
If these are ESP faults.... then what's the relationship between A7/3 and N47-5 ??
+++++ ESP surgery :
Are you up for quick solder iron time or coding instead ?
thank you for your reply!, sorry guys, I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. I cleared the codes and restarted the car and this issue hasn’t came back yet. I will start with replacing the nightvision bulb, if that’s not the problem I’ll investigate further.

If clear & restart does it then add low voltage to your list of suspects.
It may also be that it take a few disruptions to become a valid fault.
I doubt nightvision bulb can interfer with brakes... perhaps shared GND from SAM?
