cupholder cover came apart!
My cupholder cover slider thingy came apart. I didn't notice anything odd or binding in the way the slider worked before it came apart, and now I need to figure out how to get it back together. The front half has little "t" shaped parms that must have latched into the back half as shown in the photo. I can't see any broken plastic on the visible pieces, so am hopeful they slipped out of the slot they were in, but haven't been able to see how to go about putting this back together. I feel like I might have to take the console apart but would love to avoid that if possible. Anyone seen this failure?

You probably need to take it out to fix it. There are clips for the wood to click into and you can also replace the wood when it becomes faded. You'd probably have to take it out to figure out if you just need to click it back in or if some clips broke off.

Mine was not operating as smooth as before after a while more explicitly, it was not retracting when I wanted to close the tray

If you look at that video, it may just be one of those springs. Mine was also a little weak, but I put an extra winding on the springs/cables and then it had the right tension so that it worked normally afterwards.

From experience...
Don't put small paper items on the closed cover. I placed a business card there once, and the next time I opened the lid, the card was instantly sucked into the center stack, making the lid reluctant to open/close as before. OP will have an "Oh, yea" moment when he gets it apart to see what junk has fallen into the works.
Meanwhile, my lid operates fine now, I guess because the card has become bent (or something) to the point where it no longer interferes. And yes, I'm too lazy to tear the console apart (again) to retrieve the business card. Next time it gums up I will.
So, listen-up boys and girls... keep those fast food receipts and business cards somewhere else.

Yep, still have a parking garage ticket stuck behind mine, I have never seen a lid come apart like that, I would assume it needs to come out to repair as well.

So it appears nothing was broken at all, the two doors actually slide back and release each other in normal operation when the rear door slides up above the front door. Mine apparently just didn't grab back together for some reason. I wouldn't try to get them to reconnect without taking the console apart if this happens, because it looks like you would break off the little spring loaded t-bar thingies if you tried to force them past each other out of sequence. One thing to be aware of is when reattaching the HVAC control panel, the two top screws will appear to line up with two slots a bit too low. You have to press up to get the screws to line up in the proper slots.
