BUMP STOP for shock absorbers

Guys,

Only the front shock absorber we can buy the bump stop, rear ones must buy 1 complete set shock + top mount + bump stop + plastic cover.

This is the rear one. I have bought aftermarket bump stop.

The front ones. Item 50. I have replaced mine but not with an original. https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...nspection.html

So i bought the original one, US$100 a pair.
I also bought Febi-Bilstein 38573 US$12 a pair ...WHAT ??? so cheap... that is why I bought it for fun
https://www.trodo.com/rubber-buffer-...bilstein-38573
https://www.tokopedia.com/berkatabad...0044-w204-w212

These are the differences.
The Febi is softer and more foamy than rubbery. I will use the MB genuine ones.

In a few days, I will show you if this Kayaba ones can fit the rear shock absorber.
I bought from Ebay, today just clear custom. Soon will be delivered to me.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/325325879220
I want to use the bump stop only, hopefully it will fit.

Rear ones vs aftermarket brand I bought in 2021. I was not happy with it.

I was testing the car on Oct 23rd 2022 and came across part of the higway with poor quality joinery, so suspension will work hard and get this noise at 114MPH.
I suspect it is the non genuine bump stop noise. Hence I want to replace it.

This new higway is good for being so far empty of traffics past 9PM and with patch of some bad joinery on bridges, this is a good suspension travel/play test location close from home.
So bad road is not always BAD, can be useful sometimes... LOL.

Will update with new information when available.............

I forgot to add.
First time ever I felt the bump stop in action was 2020 to Bali, but the bump stop was still original. No sound, I can only feel the maximum travel achieved.
It was a VERY bad wavy wavy highway and I was only doing like 90 MPH at best.

.
Yipeee, the Kayaba Bump Stop is very close to OE size and the fit is very nice on the damper shaft/piston.

Top left image is OE/MB compared to a shiety brand I bought in 2021 and is so short.

The Kayaba damper boot is 1 piece design, unlike MB one which is a 2 piece.
I can only push in 1 bulge of the Kayaba bump stop to Kayaba dust boot. No big deal.

Nice. Bump Stop for rear damper 3rd party souce, I can now choose Kayaba.

So, all good good good. I am happy.

The shiet brand bump stop had already been bump-STOP-DED
That shiet brand internal bore was a wider diameter than the shaft/piston of the damper, so I added a tube for making it a bit tigher. Otherwise it will be so loose and may jump around.

See a normally round plastic tube became a bit swollen.
That means the bump stop is reached by the damper and then the white tube I installed then hit the damper's circlip ( C clip ) and hence it get swollen.... ha ha ha ha.
I'll be damned. So those high speed jumping I done been maxing out my damper and suspension movement.

Now with new Kayaba bump stop, basically I have properly added extra spring rate like how when it was still using the MB bumb stop. Awesome.
I will be using the Kayaba dust boot. It is single piece and is identical in size with MB one.

I replaced the front strut, right side, bump-stop today. MB genuine.
The shiet brand I used , now already chipped ...LOL.

MB genuine one, below. I just realized that the front strut has special Bump Stop shoulder which I never took notice last time
So genuine bump-stop will be locked in place nicely.

I will do the left front strut tomorrow and test if the Febi Bilstein bump stop will fit well, just curious.

Simple spray on re-coating of paint chipped areas.

The sides I marked red are actually rubbed by the spring compressor, hence the paint gone.

If I spin around 180 degrees the spring compressor, the turning bolt head will hit that round strut spring base.
The spring base is really wide, very wide. So no choice, paint will chip off.

Rust control. This CRC lithium grease is not bad. It doesn't drip. It protects from rust too.

Next time I will replace this spring "seat". Today I greased it with lithium.
The rubber coating is already gone and the steel is visible and I can see heavy friction mark.
I guess it the rubber coating is still good, it can contribute to a more silent suspension movement, as spring tends to spin ( but there is a spring edge lock/stopper ) when compressed.

I used another single claw spring compressor to complete this job, far easier. So total 3 spring compressors. 2 of double claw and 1 of single claw.
Double claw has good/safer grip but can't work well on very angled spring.
