E250 cdi
E250 cdi shaking issue

Hi all, recently brought a e250 cdi and the next day went to drive it and it shakes on idle and also when I put the shifter in D and for example standstill it shakes also. When I'm driving its totally fine and normal. Plugged Diagnostics in which showed p2783 code which is for torque converter but there is zero issue with the car driving wise and through the gears so will do a gearbox service but anyone know shaking wise could this cause it or can it be something else? If so what can I check

May wanna list the miles on it and if you have any service record history for the car. I am not a guru by any means but with a code that could be part of the problem unless ya cleared it and it doesnt come back. Could be trans mount and engine mounts adding to the problem but dont recall what/when the shaking for those is involved. GL

Just FYI we also have a diesel section on the forum with some good info also but most of the posters on that section post here as well.

shaky diesel

Is this same either hot or cold?

I am thinking one of the glow-plug is getting marginal to call for attention.

@Quint22 you should start currating an indexed collection of diesel tips ✌️

With the car driving the TC locks up so it is not doing the torque converting, it is turning as one junk of steel or whatever materials it is made of so you would not feel any issues from it. Pay attention to the shaking when you start driving from a stop. TC clutch is open when stopped but when you start moving it will close after just a small distance. You should notice the shaking stop at the moment the TC clutch locks up if the shaking indeed comes from the TC when it operates.

My E250 BT has both. Converter clutch and converter lock. They do different things.
p2783 indicate too high temperature, what can't be problem right after start.
Keep checking.

Oh,

I have used wrong term because I used the lock. I am only talking about the clutch that locks up the TC from doing the "torque converting".

What does the "lock" do?

That's what the lock do.
Clutch disengage TC when you idle. That is "green" feature and I don't think all engines come with it.
That is how I can get 60 mpg with my Mercedes.

I don't follow your thinking. What is the lock as you said you have both, clutch and lock?

I only have clutch on both of my cars.

No you have locks.
Clutch is something that disconnect 2 rotating parts.

I think I know what the clutch is but I’d like to know that the lock is that you have on top of that.

Uh what the heck. Have not scene any 60mpg on your fuelly. When what where did you get that. Is that just on a drive or something. Curious.

What is the difference clutch/lock on the auto, actually curious about this as not sure. Thought the eco thing was the eco turn off the vehicle crap that it comes with.

It takes driving 60 mph or slower to get 60mpg. I recorded it once for few miles and decided that I rather pay extra for triple digit cruising speeds.
Torque converter locks were installed even 30 years ago. When you lock the converter at cruising speeds, you are no longer waste energy on fluid mixing and car runs cooler.
TC clutches is Blueficiency thing, that disconnect TC from the engine when you idle at red light (in moments when ECO stops will not work).
This prevents fluid mixing as well, even fuel and environmental savings are marginal, But that what Blueficiency is about. They fight for each drop of fuel and liter of CO
