W212 vs W213 Wheel Bolt Length
Hi folks,
It's time to change over to the summer tires. I bought a set of new W213 10-spoke wheels. They are what I could get for a sensible price, but are 7.5" wide rather than the 8.0" originals. They are also 40mm offset rather than the 48mm of the originals - OK for the original tire size and will move about 2mm outboard.
The question is, how long should the wheel bolts be. My originals are ~35mm thread length. I'm ready to order a set of 43mm long ones. I can't find out for sure if the W213 are 43mm or 45mm long. Moreover, I don't know if there is a danger of interference with too long a bolt on the W212 with W213 wheels. Hedging my bets with the 43mm instead of 45mm.
Any advice, please?
Thanks,
Glenn

Be aware when replacing rim/wheel, some rims use different bolts. I do not know if W213 bolts type is the same with W212 or not ?
See here : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ded-taper.html
As for bolt length, it is easy.
Install the bolt on the rim/wheel ( not on the car yet ) and see how long does the bolt thread protrude out ?
The wheel bolt spare length or protrusion must be : Disc Rotor thickness ( in green ) + thread depth of the HUB (in pink ) and add 5mm more. You are gold.
Too long a bolt for rear tire is dangerous, as there are parking brake mechanism hidden inside the rotor disc.

Thank you. The original bolts only stick out through the wheel by about 3mm or 4mm. I think they are 27mm long. I have 43mm ones ready to order

You are welcome, if you buy bolts or wheel lugs, buy equal to grade 10.9 ( DIN ), lower no, higher OK.
US grade type :
https://www.hiteshsteel.com/blog/bol...8-vs-10.9.html
I looked at my old archive when I also needed extra long bolts, because I need 5mm spacer to clear the front Brembo 4 pistons caliper.
Have a loook :
Minimum 7.5 turn thread engagement for our typical M14 x 1.5 wheel bolts.
My longer bolts are from Eichbach, 10.9 grade, DIN.
Happy shopping...........
