Gearbox issue

Hi,

My car struggles to change gear when changing in lower gears. It rev's at 3 and then changes (not sure of the correct lingo) where before it would pass 2 rev and change smoothly. Does anyone know what this is? I have booked in with the Mercedes garage to do a diagnostics on the gearbox. Also they told me gearbox needs servicing every 5 years - is this true?

Thanks in advance

Current mileage and are you the original owner? The transmission fluid has to be changed with accrued mileage. Not lifetime fluid. Also there is a procedure to reset the adaptive transmission. There are video tutorials on how to perform this on YouTube.

If it were my vehicle, I would have the transmission fluid and filter replaced (including the trans fluid in the torque converter) if there isn't documentation that service has been performed by the previous owner. See what the results are after the fluid change then proceed further diagnostics if that hasn't solved your problem.

I hope you are familiar with MB transmission adaptations.
The computer sense your driving habits and make gear shifting accordingly.
That beside holding the gears on cold engine to speed up the warm up.

Mechanic sorted it. Problem with fuel particle filter. Instead of replacing with he said could cost a couple of grand he drilled a hole in it and all good now.

Hole in DPF will very likely put it in limp mode and possibly will start count down.

As stated that temporary fix, either needs to get tuned and straight piped or a new DPF is in order.

Not sure where you at or details of vehicle. When was AEM completed and how much warranty do you have left if any?

Doesn't look like OP is from America.
Diesel section sponsor sells new DPF in the range of $1000 in USA.
Cheaper in Europe

I am in Europe. So you think drilling a hole will only last for a while? Not a good solution?

The computer and its inputs are probably not going to like it. Generally that is a half *** measure to get by. Problem is smaller holes may not trip sensor setpoints but it will clog enentually, gutting the dpf will trip sensor setpoints but wont clog. If it has SCR (with DEF) then it will not work together very well. The SCR is not meant to remove the particulate and will clog eventually. If your in Europe then ya should be able to get it tuned and straight piped I would think. Here in US we have the uncontrolled EPA that like low hanging fruit.
