E 350 4matic 2014
EPS Malfunction

Hello, I need some assistance with my car. I’ve got a 2014 E350 4matic. Recently, I had to remove the terminal heads from the battery for a couple of minutes.

After putting em back and starting the car, I got the Electric Power Steering Failure Message. I have scanned the system and I get this fault code C063300 from the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) module. Meanwhile the EPS (Electric Power Steering) module has no fault.

However when checking the live data for the EPS I noticed that the supply voltage is reading 0.0 instead of values between 11V - 15.5V

Has anyone experienced this ?

Did you loose the Electric Power Steering assist or not ?
I mean steering is still light........... yes or no ?

If you steering is heavy, aka ESP dead, the main power source of it is a very big fuse inside F32 PreFuse box.
Measure 12V from the post/terminal I marked EPS

The Electronic Power Steering is a really touchy-Nelly module! It regularly issues warnings faults during power up start sequence and unstable transitions.

While these are rugged they too can fail... tons of recertified racks with updated firmware are waiting to be coded but unlikely to quit over a bump like the tail lights - Self-driving DistronicPlus entirely relies on EPS integrity to steer the car autonomously.

Let's qualify what we are dealing with:
1-- Start the engine
2-- Scan the EPS
3-- Whats the status now: self cleared?
4-- Does the steering wheel feel: light/heavy?

The opposite style is the Steering Column Module!
It's a super glitchy module that remains silent - Poor with zero fault.
While SCM does not directly affect EPS steering input it either keeps the car planted straight or driving loosely over a barel.

Steering rack main input is an internal torque sensor that request "L - R" positioning with more or less forces - Good stuff there.

I didn’t loose the electric power assist. I scanned the system after engine start and the Electric Power steering has no fault. The Electronic Stability program has one fault only which I stated earlier. The steering column has no fault either.

however, the steering remains hard.

The supply voltage live data for the EPS is 0.0. when you say ESP dead do you mean ESP or EPS ?

Pls help us untangle your issue.

> Brakes or steering:
EPS: Steering... rack & pinion
ESP: Stability.... wheel brakes
(both known rugged modules)

> Above you report :
-- "not loosing the power steering" but "it remains hard".

-- "After engine start EPS has no fault"
but "reports 0.0V live voltage".... 🫤

> Perhaps it's simply your scanner unit is not too compatible with advanced W212 modules. What scanner is it??
✌️

++++ LOW BATT... not impossible

Great video that points at what low power supply does to these cars. Shop sells another main battery to a satisfied socker-mom 👍
