Unhappy '14 E350 in limp mode (with codes)

Hello my friends at MBWorld!

So recently I've been informed that my friend's 2014 E350 has been going into limp mode around a minute after starting/driving, the car won't shift properly, the traction control system becomes defective, the car won't rev over 1000 RPM, and repeatedly lunges forward. The codes were checked a day or two before this started happening so I got a bit of information to work on.

1. Power Train System: P0060: HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 2, Sensor 2)
2. Power Train System: P0346: Camshaft Position Sensor A circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)
Secondary DTCs: P2273 (O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich, Bank 2, Sensor 2), P2272 (O2 Sensor Stuck Lean, Bank 2, Sensor 2), P0060 (HOS2 Heater Resistance, Bank 2, Sensor 2)
3. ABS: C07C100, C081700, C333400: The CAN Message from Control Unit " Is Faulty.
4. ABS: C073300: Read Fault Memory of Control Unit 'N10 (SAM Control Unit)'.

Now with that out of the way, I'm pretty sure the Camshaft Position Sensor code has been around for some time now, and the owner of the car decided to not get it fixed so I didn't really worry about it for a while, but I'm not sure if that problem gets worse over time and then triggers limp mode.

I check this forum regularly so please leave any questions and comments and I'll read over/respond ASAP.

Thanks

OMG, your friend got a good deal - So many faults plus limp-modes, what more to ask, right?

Let's begin to understand what's going on with this excellent vehicle. The key is finding where this madness starts.

1. Power Train System:
P0060: HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 2, Sensor 2)
P0346: Camshaft Position Sensor A circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)
P2273 (O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich, Bank 2, Sensor 2),
P2272 (O2 Sensor Stuck Lean, Bank 2, Sensor 2),
P0060 (HOS2 Heater Resistance, Bank 2, Sensor 2)

2. ABS/ESP
C07C100
C081700
C333400: The CAN Message from Control Unit " Is Faulty.
C073300: Read Fault Memory of Control Unit 'N10 (SAM Control Unit)'.

> PLAN A: The Oily ECU
-- This list of faults is quite an odd collection, that does say a lot.

-- Sounds like "oil in harness", sure hope not.

-- You've got the main VIP upset: ESP + ECU + TCU.

-- No where do we read anything about low-voltage dealing with SAM's. Good!

-- Check the failed upstream lambda located on driver side for OIL CONTAMINATION

- You've got to identify what pins down the bus.
ABS does complain the bus is down
TCU "LIMP-MODE"doesn't like what he is getting, its also absent!!

-- Let's guess the ECU is collapsing the CAN-C
unplug ECU and scan ESP + TCU to confirm this diagnosis.

-- Then unplug ECU + ESP to see if TCU comes back online?

> Plan B: Disrupted TCU
- it may be the TCU is bringing down the ESP CAN-Bus-C and the engine simply happens to also have a bad 02/Lambda.

- What is the current mileage ?

🤞

hahahahaha yeah it's pretty bad, when I buy my first MB, with MBWorld as my witness, I pledge that I'll never let the holy vehicle reach become such a mess.

Did that happen overnight?
There is no chance so many sensors would fail at the same time.
Has to be bad electrical somewhere.

No, the owner was negligent and let them stack up, I believe the O2 sensor was the most recent.

Christmas is coming, so you can give your friend a present.
1 gallon of fuel and a good match to light the fuel
Get the joke ...right ?

I always tell my friends who are lazy to maintain their cars or boats/yachts..... this 1 gallon fuel and match stick present I am willing to give.
Next to lazy it will be, trying to save small $$ by buying non-genuine parts or bad aftermarket parts ( some aftermarket parts are good, I mean the OE MB uses , say Bosch Lamda/Oxygen sensors ).
I hope he is a good friend of yours.

Yeah a pretty bad situation, but for a car with close to 250k miles, I wasn't really surprised, it's a good guy who owns the car but yeah some people just don't care about their car y'know what I mean.
