Aluminum parts?
Hello.
Quick question. What parts of the W212 are of aluminum? I know the trunk lid is.
I want to know (and hope) all four fenders are made out if aluminum too.
Thanks!

2014 - W212 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
2014 facelift.
Bonnet/hood = ALU
Rear Trunk = ALU
Front fenders = ALU, only the flat outside fender. The strut mount tower is steel.
I meant this one as : the flat outside fender.

Take a magnet and test

Thanks for the replies! I was looking for a magnet, but didn't have any. I have a special fear of the "rust ghost" after owning a W208 CLK, and I am particularly afraid of rust in the wheel arch area. I live in Oslo, the capital of Norway and they salt the road like it's no tomorrow here in the winter. I curse every time I see the big vehicles spit out their salt. Going to get the car sprayed with lanolin oil this month.

Thanks for the answers! Will buy a magnet in the next couple of days. Do any of you know how prone the W212 is to rust in general? Cant't wait to get it sprayed with lanolin oil on Friday. 95% of what I have read about lanolin oil is positive.

Those are especially bad years for MB and rust. Fortunately, I think they learned and the later models, ie after 2005, are better. I live in the salt happy Midwest of the U.S. and have yet to see a rusty Merc. My 2011 has spent its entire life in salt states and it looks good. What you do need to watch are the brake lines for the rear and rear subframe corrosion. Ps- say hi to Hanna😂

I have owned both my 212's since new, I live in the snow belt, we get 100 plus inches a year and the salt that goes with it, I have zero rust on the outside, but my brake lines, dust shields on rear brakes rusted through and had to be replaced, so far my rear subframe is rusty but no holes yet.
