Is this good spring broken?

Opened the hood and it fell out. I tried to get it back in but was not able to, good amount of force needed for it to look like the other still in tact one. Is it broken? I have posted the picture of the good one for reference.

broken hood springs

yes that's a fair assessment
Buy both L+R.

This is an unusual failure. Perhaps there is an issue with extreme heat stored in your engine.

When you have time... check for signs of oil in your 4x cam position sensors (CPS) - That happens often and is caused by heat as well.

The spring is fine, the plastic is not. Like said order some new parts. Cant fix plastic 'usually'.

I have not seen that particular part broken before Adhesive could fix it but replacement is a better idea to me as well

I have broken mine by accident.
It is weak to a sideway force. The plastic part of course. The spring will never break.
It is cheap.....

I ordered two. Thanks fellas. How recurring is the oil in the cam sensors? I’ll check that out as well

This is something that has some life cycle. I have had these break in both my E550 and S550. It is the same part in these cars and what breaks is the plastic end of the stem.

These parts are too cheap to try fix. I replaced both on each car when one went bad. It would not take long for the other one to fail when one goes.

How recurring is leaky CPS "oil-in-harness":
every stock engine with limited cooling is subject to have these hot plastic sensors age, crack and leak oil ultimately in their ECU.
Meaning "it's not IF... but WHEN..."
