E550 Brembo brakes
Time to swap the brakes again on my E550. Same pads, and rotors 40k miles. Lost of dust... yes. Lots of of stopping power....yes. Any pulsing....nope. Rusting negative. Can they be turned...yes.
Will I? Nope.
I somehow ended up with 3 Brembo rotors back in 2020 when I swapped them. Still have that extra one left so I ordered a new one. Same distributor.
2020 with perfect paint.
2024 with a paint machine having a bad day.
2020 with perfect grinding.
2024 perfect grinding.
This "unfinished hole" is actually the throw away wear mark.
2020 marks are laser engraved.
2024 marks laser engraved as well.
Side by side 2020 on the left 2024 on the right. Ignore the slight scratches on the top. The rotor sat outside for over 4 years, and had some surface rust. Got it out with a nail file.

I think I also need to switch to Brembo as well.
Thanks for sharing the details

I am going with different pads instead of Brembo. Carbon fiber ceramic Powerstop. If they stop enough I will keep them. OEM rotors on these are garbage. Biturbo v8 C63's, and last SLK 55's use the same rotors.

Akebono always for me. Stop great, NO dust, wheels stay clean forever!

Yeah these are the only rotors that lasted for more than 4 months on my 2014 E550. I originally mounted them with Brembo low met but had to take them off due to the extreme brake dust and grinding to a stop. Currently at 35K and just starting to feel some vibration.

2014 - W212.065 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
Mine with original MB Brembo 4 pistons front caliper gets Akebono as MB original brake pad.
Dust is a lot, but what can I do.....
My rear brake caliper I get ATE brand.
The brake pad I can't remember

Can't get Akebono front pads for my 2011 E550
Powerstop does have offerings though, I just can't find much info on whether they'll work really well for this setup or not.

I went from Brembo (very strong initial bite, zero fade experienced, great pedal feel, quiet, but dust the wheels black after 20-30 miles) to Powerstop Z23 (slightly lower initial bite, a bit lower friction coefficient, zero fade experienced, great pedal feel, and almost zero dust) on my S450..
While there is definitely a difference in initial bite and friction, it's not enough to get me to put the Brembos back on. I come from a motorsport background, having raced and then instructed for many years. For me the tradeoff is worth it, as it's still quite possible to generate enough brake torque to engage ABS on dry roads - so I think the overall braking isn't really affected, it's just that you need slightly more pedal pressure to reach the same result. At the same time, you can go almost 1500 miles (did CLT to FLA and back) and have less brake dust on the wheels than a trip around the block with the Brembos.
