Yeah you might be right, looks like it's two different pieces, rubber and metal fused to gather.
Didn't notice it on the ring when I put it on.

Yeah, the shaft is rusted, like most of the undercarriage of the car. But after more than 10 years and 370,000 km in Iceland’s capital, where people freak out over a speck of snow and dump salt all winter long, it’s pretty much inevitable. Honestly, I’m just lucky they haven’t started that nonsense in my town, even though we’re further north than they are.
Since I'm rebuilding our home and trying to move in before Christmas (yeah right, not seeing that happening) and the car has to go through the yearly vehicle inspection no later then the 27th of December, all I can do now is fix what they might complain about. Otherwise I would have done something more about the rust.

Nice photo..... thanks
I think the plastic is where the magnetic teeth are, the smaller diameter steel is the enforcement and grip point towards the shaft end, I think.

I bought something like below : to someday detect if the magnetic teeth are some getting weak :

Or get common magnetic viewing film. This type is what I got

I have always thought that my bearing hub assy is the one with the magnetic tooth, like many other cars. Till I saw the EPC yesterday.... thanks to your post.
