CarPlay On W212?
I've been doing some research to get CarPlay on my 2016 W212. I found an ebay seller with good reviews who sells an adapter that plugs into the OBDII, for $249. Seller claims it works as long as your car has the latest Audio software update which could be done only thru a dealer. When I called a couple of dealers they said there was no software update available unless there was a recall campaign or something to that effect. Has anyone done this or had something else that worked for CarPlay/Android Auto? Here's link to that adapter.

I had a local dealer update mine, I claimed I was having problems with random USB sticks, some worked, some didn't, and that I'd heard a 'flashware' (Mercedes' name for firmware) update would fix it, they shrugged, said probably not, but flashed it for an hours labor ($200) when I insisted... Been using Android Auto since 2020, and loving it. Vladimir can check your VIN and tell remotely if your car needs the firmware update. I used his dongle to flash the feature codes

I've updated my headunit at the dealer's, which Vlad confirmed. I bought the CarPlay gadget from Vlad as shown on Ebay. What surprises me is that shipment tracking is showing it's in Canada, but Vlad is located in Belarus. Now Canadian postal workers are striking. Go ahead and wait some more

My understanding is that it would work on 2016, but not older than that. I know there are other products on the market that would work with a 2014 vehicle, but those require adding a unit behind headunit. A Google search could yield helpful information.

Actually, aftermarket solutions require adding an interface to the head unit. The controller can actually be placed in the glove box.

I finally got my CarPlay going. I have to get a wireless Bluetooth adapter to avoid having wires coming out of center console. Does the USB outlet inside have constant power? When I plugged my phone before starting car, my phone started to charge right away, which tells me there’s constant power there. If I plugged in the wireless Bluetooth adapter with constant power, I’m wondering if this would affect car’s battery? I guess one way to learn if that outlet has constant power or not, is to sit inside car for 5 minutes and see when car goes to sleep if power is still on.

the USB adapters in my E stay powered for awhile but eventually shut down adn go to sleep, maybe 10-15 minutes after parking and locking the car.
