Costs of Services

Took my 2010 E 350 to dealer for a "B" service plus coolant flush, engine filter replacement and fuel filter replacement. Advisor was not real sure about some of the pricing. Appears to be $895 for the "B" service and he thought $700 for fuel filter replacement. The Fuel Filter seems to be pretty high to me. I visited a couple of independents and not confident they knew how to replace the fuel filter at all. So, decided to get dealership to do it and some other things while there.
He also thought it might take 3 days to do it all.
Has anybody had a dealership replace the fuel filter lately and if so, what did it cost? From videos, it seems pretty straight forward - if you know what you are doing.
Thanks!

Obviously I don't have your service record... your engine coolant lines are more likely to develop issues before your in-tank fuel filter unit does.
FF is a lesser priority unless you're tracking low pressure issues on higher mileage chassis.

In-tank unit under rear seat:
40mn labor rounded up to 1Hr.

Parts to include:
big O-Ring seal plus brital pastic collar.

I have 150K miles on my car, to my knowledge the FF has never been changed. I call the dealership asking about replacing it as a scheduled maintenance item and was told they only replace it for cause.

Maybe you should find your car in this document.

My 2014 C350 with the M276 engine requires the fuel filter to be replaced at 150,000 miles or 15 years.

I believe my says 150K as well which prompted the call to the dealer who gave me the feedback cited above. The dealer's charges were going to be extraordinarily expensive.

replace fuel filter whenever you replace fuel pump or might have fuel supply issue - RARE and tends to be something else like regulators or pump.

I just think of the fuel the mechanic will drip onto rear carpets or door panels or something and then you smell gasoline for months...

SKIP IT not super important. plus $700 is crazy and screams WE DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE FUEL FILTERS.

Had it done and it is expensive, but got a couple of discounts that helped. I had a Ford Ranger pick-up and the fuel pump died at about 10 years and 50,000 miles (maybe less). It is not something you want to surprise you because you cannot start the car and you don't know why. Had to have it towed to a local independent and he repaired, but managed to screw up fuel gauge sending unit. Not his fault and would replace it but at regular price. So, just lived with it until sold it.
So, I do certain types of maintenance when called for because they can be critical. Contacted highly rated independents in area - one specializing in foreign cars. Neither said don't do it. However, took it dealer as they would be more experienced in the process.
Dealer replaced both filter and pump because M-B said to do both. (see above re: pump). My OM says only filter, but it is 15 years old. No gas spillage, no fumes, no damage to carpets, back seat, etc. Why I took it to an M-B dealership. I did have less than 1/4 tank of gas.
Also got some other services done at same time. Oil and filter change, brake flush, coolant flush, engine air filter.
Find it hard to believe any M-B dealership would say not to do a service listed in Operator's Manual as Required.
