Moving into 2025 - What are the best aftermarket Android screens for the W212?

After growing accustomed to a nice, huge bright android auto capable screen in my truck, I find myself missing the same functionality in my W212. There have been dozens/hundreds of no-name units over the years, largely comprised of similar internals and likely coming from the same factory, all with different brand names. I was planning on taking the plunge on my W211 first, but since I barely drive it anymore, I figured I might as well do it on my W212. So for those who have installed such a unit on a FL W212, can you share recommendations? I am looking for wireless Android Auto capability mostly, with a larger screen that integrates with the rest of the car's system (including legacy NTG functions).

Look into 4x4shop.ca then go buy a external android auto wifi dongle for fast and drop-free wireless connection.

Amazon Amazon

I installed 3 of the android auto from 4x4 and never failed a single one plus you have a north american support. It comes with wireless android auto but I find it slow to connect and there is some lag. Maybe the chip it uses for the wireless function is lacking behind. Stick the carlink adapter I posted (again I tried A LOT and that is the best one) and it connects FAST, does not lag and no drop connections.

One other thing.....there is very little difference between the pro and pro+ I am using the pro and it is very good. Just go get the 8 gig ram and 128g storage. You can always stick a micro sd card to bump-up the storage.

Thank you, did you go with the larger or smaller screen? I see you have multiple cars, which one(s) did you install it in?

I have it on ex-W204, current C207 and GLE43. All are the same except for the mounting and some cables. Planning of putting it on a GLA and GLK. I went for the big screen as I really liked how my ex-V167 MBUX screens. Then having the EQS makes it tiny. Go for it you won't regret it. If you want some tips I'll give you some as there are things I will suggest you to buy to replace certain items to make it better.

I rarely use it. If you are on native android auto you won't be able to use it unless you have one of those back-door apps that forces the apps to do split screen (I have one...youtube for android auto). If you are on the android system you can do a split but you need to use wifi or must have 4g sim card attached to the unit.

Understanding that most of these come from the same factory and are just rebranded, the advantage of getting one from a place like 4x4shop or Road Top would be the english speaking support. There's a similar unit for sale from Road Top, with a lesser snapdragon CPU, but otherwise looks about the same: https://roadtop.com/products/mercede...44334057980147

It's a bit cheaper, I'm wondering if there's any reason to go with 4x4shop than that? I wonder if a 12.3 is too big for the space, or if I'd be disappointed in the 10" version.

Here is a picture of the difference between a 12.3 vs a 10. This is on my W204. I installed also the 12.3 on a C207 and I like it. One thing for sure if you go for 4x4shop or any NA dealer you will get good support or if your unit comes DOA you won't have a hard time getting it replaced. Also, since I already used it and had ZERO problems with it even in -11° C and 42° C temps, I am confident of their China products. One big difference between the 4x4shop and roadtop is their native OS software. 4x4shop is using Android and roadtop is Linux based.

Thank you. The 12.3 almost looks overwhelming compared to the rest of the cabin, despite how nice the extra real estate sounds. I appreciate all of the follow-up. I'll likely take the plunge soon after I finish my android auto torque odb2 hack project on my GMC truck. I was perfectly fine with my NTG 4.7 W212 implementation until I became accustomed to android auto in my truck. I had planned on doing my W211 first as a test run, but I barely drive it these days and feel like my money would be better spent on my W212, which feels like a ****ing sports car compared to my truck.

in pictures it looks huge but in person I think it is okay. It is not like Tesla in your face size. If you have the capacity to print a screen on the right size do it and put it on a cardboard and put it inside the car as a mock-up. I did this before deciding on the 12.3".

I decided to get 10" one since I'm afraid the 12" one would limit my visibility to the front a little bit as that one is a little bit taller.

I just bought this unit for my W211 after a bunch of research. Hopefully it'll revive the car a bit, the old NTG system is starting to fail: https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-9-...-cls-c219.html . They don't make a W212 version

I finally got around to installing the one I linked above in my W211. Documentation was a single page wiring diagram. I had to get a canbus decoder and tap into the canbus over under the passenger side footwell, and also needed a fiber optic decoder to get into the fiber optic loop. The W212 unit looks simpler based off the youtube videos, looks like none of the canbus connection or fiber optic decoders are required because you're retaining the head unit, is that correct?

Also, it looks like 4x4shop has a GPS splitter so you don't need to run a second GPS antenna, is that correct as well?

so after doing the research this is the unit that I purchased. I have it installed now, but I do have a few bugs to work through. There were no instructions or diagrams with the unit, but their engineering department does use What’s App to guide buyers through the installation process. Installation was pretty easy and I do feel like they will be able to solve the issues I’m having.
I plan to do a follow up to my original post, to provide a better understanding of how the process went.
