Additional Key Fob

I lost one of my key fobs for my 2016 E350 Sport with keyless go. I will purchase another this week. When a new key fob is added, is it just added to the two existing fobs, or is the lost fob removed/deleted/inactivated when adding the new fob?

What surprised me about getting a new fob is that that little metal key that fits nicely inside the fob is $137 in addition to the fob! The only thing I use it for is to gain access to the battery. I'll be using an alternative in the future.

My wife and I went for a walk after dinner about a week ago, and I used the house key attached to the Mercedes fob to lock the door and to open the door when we returned. Like MAGIC, the fob disappeared, never to be found. It's a painful thing to lose your key fob.

Don't worry you will find it at some point. Must have laid it down somewhere or be in a pocket.

Sorry to hear about your key fob . You might find it . Some idiot had lost my key fob in my previous W212 and a few days later it was recovered but it was too late because I had already had a dealer reprogrammed the 2nd one but it was a good feeling to find it anyway

Painful and EXPENSIVE! I lost mine last year when I was dumping stuff at the landfill. How do I know? I had a Tile tag on my keychain and the last known location was at the landfill. (Get a Tile or AirTag!)

The mechanical key is unnecessary if you have one that works already. Plus, the dealer can order one pre-cut based on your VIN. I was quotted $99, but that was a year ago. Instead, I got blank keys and had a locksmith laser cut a new "emergency" key. Still, it was about $10 for the blank and $50 to cut it.

Since you have a 2016 wth FBS4 security, you MUST have the dealer program the new fob. A locksmith cannot do it (yet). And the dealer will tell you you must buy it from them or another Mercedes dealer. AND, once programmed, the fob cannot be "virginized" and reprogrammed.

The missing key will be deleted and the new fob added. That is so someone finding the missing key cannot gain access to your car.

It cost me $650 to replace just the fob without the mechanical key.

Was the house key on the same keyring as the Mercedes key? Was the metal key also missing with the fob?

The Mercedes fob had 2 keys, one for our Phoenix house, and one for our Topeka house. The Mercedes fob had the metal key enclosed when it was lost.

I'm sorry, but does that mean you lost your house key, as well?

Yes, both of them. I have another set of house keys on the other Mercedes fob.

Got it. Well, you definitely want to add an AirTag or Tile to your remaining and new fobs.

Agree with @JettaRed it is similar in my region. I have the same setup as you. I bought a metal blank for about $10 and my locksmith made a copy for about $25 (3 years ago) but said that a special machine is needed to cut (which he had) due to the narrowness of the metal key. (goal was to have a 3rd metal key, not fob.) Not all locksmiths have the 'narrow' machine. Another forum member claims KG fobs are no longer produced. I have not found that to be the case two years ago. If you have difficulty getting a KG fob from a dealer, report back. Sorry to hear about the incident.
