A few months ago, I took my car to a shop to remove the old dark tint and replace it with a lighter color tint. I specifically asked if he could do it without damaging the defroster wiring. He said he used heat to remove old tint so no damage will happen to that wiring. So, I left him car to work on, but in a couple of hours he called saying wiring was peeling off with tint. I immediately told him to stop everything. I went back to see what had happened and sure enough the wiring was damaged. He said if was not their responsibility. I will see him in small claims court in about 6 weeks.

Replacing to new tining film is always a risk. I did mine in May 2019 , replacing older tinting with 3M crystalline.
In April 2014 was its first time tinted using 3M too but lower end model, by 1st owner.
Installer told me I am lucky, he did not damage the heater wire....which is true
I think by the time my 3M cyrstaline fogs up its glue in 2029, if it is removed, my heater wire will get damaged.
After the damage was done the shop refused to take responsibility so I filed a complaint with the state Bureau of Automotive Repairs (BAR) and a lawsuit in small claims court. Today I got a call from BAR who informed me the shop is offering to cover the cost of a new rear window. Victory feels good 👍

The SL400. I thought it unusually that the heating elements would corrode so quickly, but the rear window appears to be original. I did buy the car used. When I checked with the dealership at the time, they told me that there really wasn't aftermarket glass for the SL. The dealer doesn't do glass directly, but outsources the work to Safelite, etc., and the glass companies order Genuine parts from Mercedes.
