2013 E350 E212, car moving forward when shift in "N"

This happened during I was changing rear flex disc. When I remove the flex disc, I can shift to "N" but car engine had to start. Then I rotate the drive shift to unbolt the flex disc bolts. When I re-install the flex disc, I noticed a slight misalignment, so I start the car and shifted to "N" then I saw the rear wheels are turning and I stopped the engine, and return to "P". I was finally able to rotate the differential side and -reinstalled the flex disc, but the car was still moving when in "N". I thought this might be related to transmission fluid level so I re-leveled the transmission fluid, the problem only solved temporarily for a few minutes of test drive.

What could be the issue? might be related to the changing rear flex disc?

It's normal for unloaded wheels to spin with engine running & tranny in Neutral.

If you're looking at stoping wheels shift to the Parking selection.

Tranny oil level must be correct given warmed up condition + engine running.
Use clean genuine ATF of matching grade/color to level as per MB procedure.
(Beware: wrong fluid level or condition can damage tranny internals: ~$8k)

Thanks for your reply. Actually the car was moving forward with four tires on the ground when engine was running with shift in "N". I have to brake to stop it from moving. Is this still normal? It has to be brake before the car can be shifted from "P" to "N".

The transmission fluid was Fuchs 72229Late from FCP EURO. It was changed about one year ago. Fluid was leveled at 45 'C degrees till on-continuous dripping.

Warm tranny oil leveled while engine running, true ?
Then tranny level is good (flat garage floor?)

Sounds like your tranny is not shifting into Neutral.

Can you hear the ISM Module clunking each of your PRND gear selections?
Or is nothing happing due to failing ISM ?
ISM built to nequire service.

> Next you'll confirm ISM status directly reading it with your scanner: 5mn answer.

Yes for transmission fluid leveling, the car was leveled, front in ramp, back jacked up and checked by a leveler. The engine was running till the temperature reached 45 degrees. I did hear clunking for each shift RNDP, and the car runs fine in "D" and "R". Not sure how to check ISM though. I do have an OBDeleven, maybe I will try it out.

I checked my other three cars, all can be shifted to "N" with or without engine running and car did not move when in "N". I think something wrong with the transmission/shift when I changed the rear flex disc. I will let dealer check it out.
