Parking brake Issue

My parking brake has not been working very well ever since I noticed (I have almost never used it) but recently I noticed that the release lever was loosen and eventually it does not retract to its own position and parking brake does not do it's function(does not hold the brakes). Please refer to the video.

Is this something that can be fixed or needs to be replaced?

Thank you in advance.

This is a standard failure when the grease has evaporated to become a glue.

The whole spring-coil gets stuck prevents parking brake from retracting.

The repair is to service or replace the unit. Hi-temp silicone grease can not turn into sticky mess.

Sounds like they need to be over hauled. Everything in my W204 parking brakes was rusted and wouldnt work right. Rust was so bad the dust shields were crumbling apart and the parking brake pad holding springs had nothing to attach to trying to put them back. The expansion lock was rusted and wouldnt move, couldnt even knock the pin out on one side so cut the cable to remove it. Reinstalling a new cable was a real pain so try not to do that.

The springs I left dry and applied grease on the adjuster and on the expansion lock.
