W213 Engines Choices in US

4 cylinder engine!
What a joke putting such an underpowered engine in the e-class.
Might as well buy a c-class, same engine. 20k less.
Really disappointed at this change.
Have had 9 new mbs' in the past.
Might have to keep my 2014 e350 sport 4-matic

There will be other engines of course. They're just following Audi and BMW and offering the E300 to compete with the A6 2.0t and the 528i. I think at the NYC show we will get more info on the E43 with a possible 400hp. If not expect it to have 362hp like the C43 models.
In 2017 for the 2018 model year is when the new I6 engines will come.

396hp in U.S. trim from the same 3.0L V6 found in all the 450/43/400 cars.

You guys keep talking about less hp. The old E550 had 402hp, this has 396hp, not that much of a difference, not enough to speak of really. This E43 will no doubt be lighter and has better gearing with the 9G. It will no doubt handle much better, and it has airmatic to smooth out the ride when you don't want a sportier/charging drive. The only thing that is less is the torque, but again the gearing might make up for that as will less weight. I think you all need to drive this E43 before saying it isn't a proper replacement for the E550.

So when will they introduce this I6? We've been hearing these rumours for over a year now, and all these new cars are debuting with the V6. I would have thought that the brand new E would have been the perfect car to debut the I6, if there really is one!

I agree this car would have been a perfect time to introduce the I6, but MB doesn't introduce new cars and engines together that often. It cuts down on problems and ensures better reliability. Think about it, after a year on the market the E-Class will be in the press again due to the new engines. MB knows what they're doing.

From that first article ...
Bummer. That sounds like it won't be an engine choice in the new E-class for at least 2 years

Yeah it looks like maybe the 2018 model year, but as you say it may end up being a full 2 model years and that would put the E at the 2019 model year.
