Question about Homelink

Hello:

I'm brand new to this forum, and also to the MB family. Just picked up my 2017 E300 sedan (polar white with nut brown interior); P3 package; 19" AMG sport wheel package; pano sunroof; all digital instrument panel. I absolutely love the car. The sales experience and sales staff were both top notch (I bought the car from Mercedes Benz Anaheim Hills in So Cal).

However, I am having an issue with the Homelink buttons. I've successfully completed the programming process for all three buttons, using the remotes for my garage, gate to neighborhood, and a second garage for a family member who lives very nearby. I followed the process shown in the owners manual, and also watched a YouTube video tutorial that my salesman sent me. The programming was a success for all 3 buttons. However, once I shut off the engine, the pairing was lost and the Homelink buttons were no longer functional. This has happened three times now. The two garage doors use rolling codes, so there is an extra step to the programming process.

I read online that the Homelink system in the 2017 E Class is different from the system used in the previous generation of the E Class, as well as other MB vehicles. I also read on an MB blogger site that there is a known issue with the 2017 E300 not holding the code and that the service department needs to "add the operational codes" to the car for anybody experiencing this issue. Apparently, there was a service bulletin sent to the dealers on June 30, 2016. I brought this issue to the attention of my salesman, and he is kindly working on sending an MB service tech to my house to try to fix the problem. He also scheduled a service appointment for me later this week, in case the service tech cannot fix the issue.

Has anybody else with a 2017 E Class experienced this issue? If so, were they able to have this issue resolved, and how?

Note: I've owned several new vehicles of various makes over the years, all of which had Homelink in them. I've never experienced a problem with the programming process in any of those vehicles.

Same issue here. Picked up my E300 about 2 weeks ago, had no problem programming Homelink but once overnight all programmed buttons were lost. House of Imports (Socal) said bring it in but just haven't had time. Be interested in your experience, though. 😀

Needs Software Update

Picked up my car in July. dealer was quick to tell me they did the Homelink software update as directed by MB to all their current stock 2017"s. I've had no issue. Have them do the update.

Thanks for the great information. I informed my dealer (the salesman who sold me the car) about the service bulletin. He scheduled an appointment for me to take my car into their service department later this week.

Followup: took my car to the dealer this morning. They reprogrammed the software for Homelink. I got home and re-paired my garage and gate remotes. Everything works great now. The car no longer drops the codes when the engine is turned off.

Great first service experience with this dealer. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful.

How long did the actual service take? I need to bite this bullet.

I'm not quite sure how long the actual reprogramming of the Homelink system took. When I took the car to the dealership this morning, they were very busy so they put me in a loaner car and they called me once my car was ready, about three hours later. That also includes them washing the car and vacuuming the interior. From what I've read online, the actual time to reprogram the software is approximately 30 minutes.

Thank you. Yes indeed, these forums are very helpful, especially for people like myself who are new to the MB family.

I had my homelink updated a couple days ago. It took about an hour and after re-programming to the car unit and the garage door opener, the codes are holding.

Same issue here with Homelink forgetting the settings as soon as the car is shut down. Made an appointment with local dealer. Shouldn't they just offer OTA updates for these kind of stuff?

Does anyone have the service bulletin regarding this issue? I went to dealer for this issue. They just put "284 Performed program of garage door test, and cycled key vehicle operates normally at this time"

I am still having issue w/ homelink doesn't stay coded for my garage door. It works when I programmed it, and after shutting down the car for a while the code is gone. The light becomes blinking orange again (instead of green). I have a feeling they don't know what they are doing as the SA said it's the FIRST 17 E300 they see coming in for service!

Hi Outie:

I think this is the Service Bulletin number for the Homelink issue: LI68.05-P-064396

Hope this helps...good luck!

Thank you so much I really appreciate it. I'll bring this to the SA so they'd better fix it. They just told me to call roadside assistance if I am still having trouble...

Perform initial startup on the Garage Door Opener control unit (GTO-A67n2): Use XENTRY 05/16 with AddOn 5987 or XENTRY 07/16 with AddOn 5988. Be sure the country code 5 is selected (if not already selected).

The Homelink issue has been around since the start. Hard to believe the dealer didn't fix that before delivery. Actually hard to believe vehicles being delivered now are still having the issue.

Here is a list of other items that you might want to be on the look out for:

Same homelink issue on E300 just delivered. Car has been back to dealer and the technical bulletin was performed (reprogramming). Still does not work. Dealer evaluating whether to replace the mirror and consulting with MB.

Same here. Brought it in the second time and they updated the software this time. The work order reads:

1056 Garage door performed software update per LI68.05-P-064396

I reporogrammed the opener. It worked fine before I left mom's house (just like before). She just told me it's flashing orange again (coding got reset) and it's been several hours since I programmed it.

Do you have any update with your dealer? Is it because they did not perform the update correctly? This is really starting to cause an inconvenience. I am usually very tolerate on these stuff but after 2nd time it's still not fixed. I'll perform a coding reset first next time and try again. Maybe I'll program all 3 buttons to the same opener and see if anything works.

Ended up taking it in for the 3rd time and showing them the instruction per member konigstiger. I think they screwed up by not selecting the right country code. The coding seems to stay now.
