exhaust pipes has nothing to do with no of cylinders or turbos. The only thing the no of cylinders determines is the no of manifold outlets in the engine bay. Turbo or non turbo or twin turbo is irrelevant, once the gases are out of the engine you can combine or disperse your exhaust gasses and pipes any way you want. BMW F10 530 and 535 both use the same 6 cylinder engine in diffferent states of tune. The 530 has one exhaust on the left, the 535 has 2 on either side. Old school Merc V8s had only one rear muffler on one side now we are seeing 4 cyls with a muffler on each side.

Exhaust does NOT flow out of each tip! One tip isn't connected to the exhaust system.

dual exhaust definitely on E300

I have a 2017 E300 luxury trim built in August 2016. I had my oil and filter changed the other day at 1,000 miles at a Mercedes specialist shop.

I took some photos of the undercarriage. The exhaust coming from the motor is split just aft of the rear axle with a pipe going to each tip opening in the bumper fascia.

I will post some photos as soon as they are received to my desktop from my cell. Slow internet between AT&T and Comcast.

Dual exhaust 2017 E300

Here are two undercarriage photos of my 2017 E300 luxury trim showing the exhaust from the motor split in two behind the rear axle with EACH pipe going to the left and right bumper fascia false exhaust tip.

I work on them for a living, and own one... but you clearly know more than I do on the subject, apparently. Enjoy the ignorance!

Why would Mercedes go to the trouble of installing the pipe and resonator for the second exhaust?

Sir, I just started my motor. It is 40 F here in NJ and damp outside. Water vapor was coming out of both openings and condensing in a cloud. Go start yours and see the same thing. Who is the ignorant one here???

Check the E200d? The one I drove in Riga was a single exhaust with a hidden tip.
It must depend on the specific engine how the exhaust is configured.

Same here in NC. Two exhaust openings, output coming from both.

As far as I can tell from images on the Mercedes website the E200, E200 4Matic, E250 and all the diesels have a single exhaust.

Thanks HBerman for confirming I am NOT the ignorant one here. Apparently the Mercedes Technician above needs more training.

@0:14 you can clearly see the exhausts on both sides

Proof that the w213 e200 has dual exhausts, you may be right about the 4 cylinder diesels, that's harder to verify since you have to get a view from below

We don't have any E diesels here yet (US) but all the gas engine E's here have dual exhaust with fake tips (of course).
All the info I've seen is that diesels have one exhaust with two fake bumper tips. BTW that E200 in the video is a gas E200 that is sold in other markets, it uses the 201 HP 2.0 turbo that is used here on the CLA. Yep, under the hood it sounds just like a diesel due to its direct injection system! You cant hear it inside the car due to very effective sound insulation.
Its the same engine used on the E300 but In the E 300 it has been "fortified" to 241 HP. In addition, on the CLA 45 AMG, its further "invigorated" to 375hp.

from a common sense and bean counter point of view, why bother having 2 exhausts (L+R) on a diesel, if both are pointing downwards and the aesthetic "tips" on both sides are covered plastic......it's not like you can see through

It makes more sense on a petrol model and would assume that all petrol models irrespective of size would have twin exhausts (i.e left and right) because the tips are wide and open. You can't have an exhaust on one side and plastic trim on the other or an exhaust on one side and a gaping hole on the other.
